Question:

I've started enjoying fish sopes from El Roy's taco truck in Santa Rosa. Delicious. They come with the queso fresco on top. Is all of that cheese sold commercially pasteurized? I'm newer to this, my Mexican food experience prior was mostly burritos and grilled plate stuff.

@rolandelli There have been a number of recalls of soft fresh queso type cheeses over the last few years for listeria. The last one 2 months ago did use pasteurized milk. I would guess most packaged ones are pasteurized.

@rolandelli YW. Queso Fresco is almost the same as paneer, a fresh cheese from India. Usually milk and lemon. Queso uses vinegar instead of lemon. Traditionally both were made from raw milk that was heated. But here we use store bought pasteurized milk to make paneer so it stands to reason if the restaurant made it, it would be same.

Folks, if you have to go to Petaluma from Fairfield (or Napa) Take SR-12 to SR-116 and be treated to heaven on earth vistas thru wine country pretty much the entire ride. The green won’t last too much longer. Highly recommend!

@cfmccarthy Last summer I made a pitcher of iced hibiscus tea mixed with strawberry lemonade. So yummy. I used to enjoy it once in a while at the coffee shop. Having access to a pitcher of it turned out to not be a good idea for me as it turns out it lowers blood pressure causing some people to experience dizziness, sleepiness and light-headedness. Took me 2 days to figure it out, lol. All things in moderation I guess.

@cfmccarthy Well I guess people are different and it affects some, not others. Probably beneficial for those with high BP. I shouldn’t have brewed it so strong and drank so much lol. Local small batch shops are the best. :)

Quite happy with the weather whiplash today from yesterday’s high of 80 to a breezy cloudy 60 today. Took advantage & opened windows to cool the house so I could tackle some spring cleaning. Hope to continue over next few days. It’s about 11 weeks since my 1st case of “mild” 🤨covid and the post-covid bronchitis is slowly subsiding but still wakes me up. Today was the first day I was able to do groceries & cooking & cleaning without being majorly exhausted after each of those things.

OFC I payed for this the next day. I had a meeting out of town. So after the meeting I checked the Imax and sure enough Dune was playing so I thought yay I can finally see it on Imax before it leaves. 3 minutes into sitting down the productive coughing started -not fun in a mask. So I left before trailers even started and good thing too because the fatigue set in for the drive back. 2 steps forwards, 1 back… Coughing always starts in late afternoon but it started earlier, ah well.

@cfmccarthy TY I have it way better than lots of folks :). I am glad I was able to leave the ER today before the coughing started. Pops can’t be left alone so I was bouncing between him & mom’s bed. Advice nurse made me call 911 b/c she thought she was having a heart attack but it was GERD. So that sucks but is a relief. I will probably crash hard again tomorrow. Long day. Mostly I worry about caring for them. Wonder if GERD is her post Covid complication.

@cfmccarthy I have never encountered such a bossy advice nurse. Mom put her on speaker and she wanted to stay on while the paramedics arrived, was telling me to go open the front door, flag them down (all of which I was already trying to do except she kept wanting me to be able to hear her at same time, sigh.). She really was convinced mom was about to drop dead if she didn’t immediately leave for ER. Stressful to the max. I love that she was pro active but wow.

@cfmccarthy Yeah I mean paramedics said it wasn’t heart, nurse insisted it is. So then they hooked up EKG and it looked fine, but nurse said go now to ER. Paramedics were like hang up on the nurse.

The mylar holographic bird scare flash tape that worked earlier in the year to deter bats & birds from roosting above front door frame no longer works. They got wise to my low cost renter’s solution. So I picked up 12” x 4” foam bricks, taped them together linearly, wrapped them in scare tape, and wedged them above the door frame. The clearance was 4”ish too so they simply hold in place without adhesive.No more opening door to mess & early morning jump scares. #physical #birds #deterrent

Bird tape-covered foam bricks have worked like a charm. I used to put a mask on to clean the bird & bat waste as I didn’t want to aerosolize any potential pathogens (ex #AvianFlu ). A simple physical barrier was the solution. Homeowner had suggested bird spikes, I had explained drawbacks. But they did not include a recent video of a crow removing bird spikes! LOL.
