I know I've banged on about this app before but that's because I love it so much!
I ended up taking way too long on my walk before work with my dog this morning after I opened Merlin and left it running for 10 minutes.
Hearing the birds and then seeing the identification pop up was wonderful, especially as it highlighted which bird was singing the loudest amongt the displayed list. I spotted a goldcrest after it told me it was there. https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/

Haven't played in a long time so I made a new character. So far he's a PLD/WHM (Sage is my fav healer but WHM is 2nd so it'll do for now) Might end up picking RDM for my DPS class since it's the most "Pirate-y" right?

@feditips Trunks on Android shows it both as a quote toot, but also resolves the link and shows the post in-app when following the link.

@jupiter I've seen toots about it as well. However the notion of "east" from the perspective of the pole tickles my brain. Does it imply some kind of wind vortex, I wonder.

@gothsong Yes! FFXIV is not to be rushed through, plus you start getting exciting Trial bossfights through MSQ from L50 and Normal Raids from L60 (optional content) if you want a bit of a break from the story and just want some fun combat! Even at max level it's fun to occasionally come back to those!

@gothsong The most different thing really, as people have already pointed out, is that the journey itself is the biggest part of the game (even if there's tons of content in addition to it), other MMORPGs have made us expect to just struggle to get to an arbitrary endgame before we can even begin properly enjoying the game.

Also, I felt that once I got into the story it never really felt slow, there's always momentum forward. Just don't count how many quests are left before the next part :P

@seandick You can always just hide the model and then do a respawn-like flicker before returning to normal, if the land-clipping bothers you. Otherwise it feels appropriately quirky to me :)
