But they still won’t be able to remove all of the baked-in spyware.

Probably any Chromium browser that didn’t degoogle it.

Even though Firefox is way better, it’s also send user data by default.

On Firefox you can disable it, and there are a lot of forks that send no data/the minimal user data needed.

I’d recommend Mull or Fennec, and to stay away from (most of) Chromium broswers including Opera.

They just had twins not too long ago.

It’s hard to keep doing two full-time jobs and additional one that no one pays you for.

The dev said they are going to take a break. They didn’t say they want to stop completely.

I partially disagree. It depends on why they sent the link.

If it’s totally out of nowhere, I agree; if someone asks a question and their channel/video answer the question? Feel free to advertise yourself.

Molly added multi-device support, including secondary Android devices - phones, tablets, etc.

Like the other comment mentioned, you don’t need to reboot, unless you’ve updated the kernel.

If you somehow downloaded by mistake an immutable system, like Fedora Silverblue or Fedora Kinoite, know it’s not the classic way to manage Linux systems.

@eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

Upgrade, ha?

OK, time to install TempleOS.

The problem with all those addons is that you’re limited; you can use only what they already set for you.

Redirector is more flexible.

I bought a new Lenovo with Windows 11 preinstalled and apparently if I want to use this laptop I need to have a Microsoft account (lemmy.world)

Is there any way around this? Why is Windows doing this? Don’t get me wrong, I got the laptop to install a Linux distro anyway, but it’s helpful for others (especially my older family members) to just use Windows when they need to print a paper or do a small task, so I would have liked to keep it. Microsoft really lost me...

@eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, but you can create local account.

Choose any of these 3 options:

A. Shift+F10 (opens cmd) > OOBEBYPASSNRO

B. Continue until getting to creating account

B.1. Account > 123@123.com/test@test.com/a@b.com/1@1.ru/fuckoff@microsoft.com/a@outlook.com/d@d.d/na@na.com

B.2. Password > enter any random password

C. […] > How would you like to set up this device > Set up for work or school

With an existing system:

• CMD > net user /add *

Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?

I’ve noticed in the Linux community whenever someone asks for a recommendation on a laptop that runs Linux the answer is always “Get a Thinkpad” yet Lenovo doesn’t seem to be a big Linux contributor or ally. There’s also at least six Linux/FOSS-oriented computer manufacturers now:...

It saddens me to say this, but don’t buy from Purism. My Librem 5, after 2 years, still didn’t arrive.

In case you're mad at yourself for closing your precious window with all the right tabs opened, note that Firefox allows to reopen recently closed windows (jlai.lu)

I generally have a “home” Firefox window with my most used tabs pinned. Sometimes I close it before another window, so I was frustrated to “lose” it and having to redo my pins. But recently I discovered this feature. Joy!

As another comment suggests, try to change your user-agent. Chameleon is great.

FairMail is very good, and gets updates frequently.

Works great with Gmail, and other mail services.

Telemetry, supposed to be only sending data that would benefit the user, by helping the developers to understand what the users really need.

Microsoft and Apple abused that term and it became just ‘data collection’. FOSS telemetry shouldn’t, and usually - hopefully - wouldn’t collect unnecessary data, to sell it back as adverts.

So if you trust <project-name>, I don’t see why not to enable it. It just helps the devs, and you too, at the end.

I use NerdOS BTW.

(That’s fantastic, I absolutely love it.)
