100% of ads I get on 's mobile app are scam and reporting it doesn't make any difference, because most of the time YouTube's content moderation team claims it can't find anything "wrong" about them or that they are violating their ToS. And if they do decide to take one down, it doesn't matter, because the same ad gets instantly re-uploaded by a shitload of other accounts.

At some point do we block Google’s crawler altogether too?

frederic,
@frederic@chaos.social avatar

@cory You could basically use fail2ban and block all incoming traffic from the IP range of all major cloud providers (where folks are running their crawlers to feed their always hungry AI masters). Better than using a robots.txt file and without problems for end users.

Those IP lists already exist, but in different formats and not for all providers (but there are ways to gather the required data).

frederic,
@frederic@chaos.social avatar

@cory That's the reason why I'm thinking about leaving Netlify and get a cheap "cloud" instance somewhere, run fail2ban and nginx on my own, and build some sort of webhook for deployment.

Haven't updated my website in ages and crawlers are probably the only ones visiting, but I'd like to have a bit more control and insights.

frederic,
@frederic@chaos.social avatar

frederic,
@frederic@chaos.social avatar

frederic,
@frederic@chaos.social avatar

frederic,
@frederic@chaos.social avatar

On , the link speed of my onboard network adapter is stuck on 100 Mbps. Tried updating/reinstalling the driver, checked the switch and cabeling, no luck. (Switch/cable produce 1Gbps as expected when connected to a different computer.)

Couldn't find a proper solution on Google. Any ideas?

Re-organizing the #Homelab and currently stuck on #HardThingNo2, naming things. My #aspie brain thinks it'd make most practical sense to name things by function, e.g. workstation01, firewall01, cluster01node01, etc. (which adds the question of how many leading zeroes), would like to name things with geeky references e.g. FUCKUP, Ozma, 7of9, etc. (which runs into issues as soon as you try for a coherent theme of enough components...), and is worried that from a security perspective something memorable yet unrelated to its function might be wise, e.g. blue charybdis, amber cyclops, periwinkle gorgon (But then I'm not running a spy agency here... as far as you know :-P).
