On , the link speed of my onboard network adapter is stuck on 100 Mbps. Tried updating/reinstalling the driver, checked the switch and cabeling, no luck. (Switch/cable produce 1Gbps as expected when connected to a different computer.)

Couldn't find a proper solution on Google. Any ideas?

Re-organizing the and currently stuck on , naming things. My brain thinks it'd make most practical sense to name things by function, e.g. workstation01, firewall01, cluster01node01, etc. (which adds the question of how many leading zeroes), would like to name things with geeky references e.g. FUCKUP, Ozma, 7of9, etc. (which runs into issues as soon as you try for a coherent theme of enough components...), and is worried that from a security perspective something memorable yet unrelated to its function might be wise, e.g. blue charybdis, amber cyclops, periwinkle gorgon (But then I'm not running a spy agency here... as far as you know :-P).

Was just reminded that you can use no headings in a web page and automated tests will pass you for WCAG compliance.

You can't use the wrong heading structure if you use no headings at all! Automated tests can't tell where the structure needs to be broken up into sections because they would have to understand the nature of the content.

@heydon It would be nice if they could at least give a basic recommendation, like:

  • Count the number of consecutive paragraphs (with no other structuring elements like lists, tables, etc. in between) → "Maybe you should introduce headlines to structure the content"
  • Count the characters inside a single paragraph → "This seems like a very long paragraph. You should try to spit it up."

Ernsthaft - ich habe das für nicht möglich gehalten und bis zum Auspacken gedacht, dass da wieder der Fön zu Tage kommt. Aber nein, DHL hat den Spannungsbogen der Geschichte tatsächlich perfekt zu Ende gespielt, inklusive der Nicht-Zustellung gestern, sodass der Protagonist heute nochmal etwas vermeindlich nutzlose Anstrengung auf sich nehmen musste…

It's this variance of accents/dialects just within the UK that always makes me question why people want to "lose" their accent when speaking English as a second language.

I sort of get it - and I know people even within the UK sometimes work hard to lose their regional accent.

But, as someone with a nondescript home counties accent in my English (and similarly Stockholm in my Swedish), I sometimes wish I had a hint of something more interesting in the way I speak.

@sarajw For me, it's a concious decision to take on a different accent, but I guess one is influenced by the media one consumes (for example Hollywood movies vs. British TV shows, news, etc.).

I learned British English at school in Germany and I loved watching UK MTV shows at that time, for example Ray Cokes' "MTV's Most Wanted". Loved the accent and also learned a lot of typical words and phrases you didn't find in any text book. 😂
