Someone made a #Discord Messenger app for old versions of #Windows like Windows 2000 and Windows XP. This looks fascinating and cursed at the same time.
Was möchte man denn für Notizen verwenden, wenn man diese auf #Linux, #Android oder #Windows erstellen und bearbeiten möchte. Verteilt auf verschiedene Geräte sollen diese über #Syncthing werden.
The new iPads are once again mind-blowingly amazing hardware showcases, hamstrung by software and an extractive App Store gatekeeper that limits what users can effectively do.
There is now such a large overlap of prices between iPad and MacBooks that we’ll probably never see a touchscreen Mac, because it would be a superior choice over iPad in most cases.
What I want, really, is macOS running on desktop, laptop, and tablet form factors, with a relatively open software environment not solely owned by the App Store.
I think Microsoft actually got it right with Windows 11 (minus the #enshittification ads). If only they pushed more strongly on the Surface lineup…
I have been using Thinkpads for years and been using Trackpoints. I love the technology, but we getting a bit of strain in my fingers, so wanted to try something else, so using a laptop with a touchpad instead. Finding that I kept clicking things by mistake. Thought there was something wrong with my laptop, but then found there was a setting for clicking things my mistake and it was called "Tap to click" and a similar one for right clicking. Both were on by default.
I guess I am one of those that prefers to click when I want to click and not have a slight touch of the touchpad register as a click. The touchpad has to differentiate between clicking, scrolling, moving, etc., so having everything with the same level of pressure seems likely to lead to mistakes.
This was tried a couple of years ago, but there some issues with mingw - so kudos to the folks that investigated and fixed those (sorry that I don't have links)!
Next step, the MSVC builders, which will require bumping the version of Clang that's used to build LLVM first...
The melodious sounds of a new (work) laptop, straining under weight of #Windows 11 and the requisite anti-virus software. Nice toasty air coming out of the vent. 🔥
I repeat, from today #Windows Support #milestone is completed 🎉
This is means that all crates works on that OS as expected, tests going on CI regularly and that CI-checks marked as required for merge from now.
Ok, hear me out - OS-LYMPICS. Let's take #Mac, #Windows and #Linux, and identify a number of operational concepts - efficiency, security, breadth of app base, hardware compatibility, literally anything else. Elect guru squads - MacOS team, Linux team, and.. me. A podcast, or a twitch session, or something. And then each team "competes" to show off the capabilities of their OS versus each operational concept so that otherwise clueless people can get a fucking clue. HOW FUN, amirite?
For design inspiration, I'm trying to gather a list of desktop apps that are fun/enjoyable and don't have a corporate/enterprise feel to them.
Not games or streaming apps though. It feels like desktop app design hasn't kept pace with modern web app design but maybe my searches aren't using the right terms.
I realize this is subjective, but I'd still like more examples. 😁 Thx!
