A lot of people still saying Mastodon's UX is a barrier to entry and that, if you somehow managed to sign up to an instance and are here, saying it is an easy process is biased/exclusionary/privileged/blinkered.

Well, speaking as someone with interface blindness and low executive functioning, who shouts at parking meters, microwaves, and 98% of the web: I'm calling bullshit.

My first gig in over a decade last night. I'm on the left playing baritone guitar and twiddling knobs.

Dimly lit men sandwiched between PA speakers in a basement.

I understand Bluesky is privately owned? (so I'm not sure how "decentralized" applies) but how does it make money?

Tories are handing out leaflets in Norwich saying you don't need to bring voter ID to the polls. Outright lie.

Actually had a Tory "campaigner" come to my door the other day. I told him to fuck off. The audacity to come to my house with your bullshit.

Why is @scope different than Shadow DOM? There are a number of similarities, but a couple things make @scope different:

  • it's more lightweight, so it's easy to sprinkle onto the page where Shadow DOM would be overkill
  • it allows for multiple scopes to overlap and provides control over styles when they do
  • it offers fine-grained control over which styles do or do not reach from an outer scope into an inner one

@keithjgrant I'm a bit confused that `@scope (.card) to ( .slot)" does not scope the card styling to the slot element but... the opposite. Is that really correct?

heydon,
@heydon@front-end.social avatar

@keithjgrant ohhhhh okay that makes more sense now, thanks. That is rather ambiguous though 😬

@keithjgrant The word until exists, just saying. Maybe I should write specs (probably not).

The inclusive design principles by @tink @iheni @heydon and @IanPouncey are back after a bit of a lie down

“These Inclusive Design Principles are about putting people first. It's about designing for the needs of people with permanent, temporary, situational, or changing disabilities — all of us really.”

Available in 5 languages

@tink @robinwhittleton @SteveFaulkner @iheni @IanPouncey I think Robin means things like inclusive language and representation. Implicitly we are talking about the ergonomics of interface design here, so these topics—although important—don't really fit.

I don't get why people keep falling for the "this venture capital kickstarted social media site will be different and inclusive" thing. And a massive side-eye at the folks go "pfff this looks like some bullshit" then boast about how they got an invite.

Smuggled an almond knot (made with cardamom dough) home from Fabrique on Friday and it was tasty with the last of my coffee beans. Saturday I bought new beans and a fresh banana creme pie and both were a let-down. Beans tasted metallic, pie was more a mousse (no banana slices).

A thick slice of pie comprised of a tall layer of fluffy yellow topped with a taller layer of fluffy white, dusted in coconut shavings; in the foreground is a small glass mug holding a cappuccino with a tall white foam.

@aardrian @sarajw Yes! Cardamom is the best. I drink a lot of cardamom tea too.
