So look.

The "press" and the "media" are not the problem people. That so many of you think this is by design.

The press and the media are supposed to be the 4th estate.

The watchdogs of government.

The intelligence wing of the people.

Corporate media is a problem, yes, but the press as an institution are not.

But because so many people remain ignorant to the role of the press, I've no doubt that we will be without them in total sooner rather than later.

This somewhat reminds me of arguments about how people throwing paint on museum art in climate protest aren't "doing anything". Yeah they didn't singlehandedly end the regime of SHell et al., but: you're talking about it, aren't you?

Also, why is the entire burden on the students here?

Lastly, after the month I've had, just... fucking don't.

@richpuchalsky Maybe, but the universities being run by outright authoritarians will not actually be good. We're not that far away now, as the recent episodes reveal, however. Still it won't be good.

@rose_alibi I jsut met a friend to go for a walk for about an hour. It's fairly cloudy here but it was noon and the sun is really intense given time of year so I slathered some on my face. Then came home and concluded I had to take an entire shower (which I did not otherwise need) just to get it off my face and hair that had touched my face. I have many different kinds for different applications or randomly acquired and they are all terrible

I asked my small biz customers to pay by check or e-check and many actually have! I have to invoice them separately so it’s tedious but the real ones are down. well, the real ones plus the lady from Texas who told me she was happy to start getting in the habit of paying for things by check due to the 15 minute city people eventually using credit cards to shut down commerce from longer distances 🤗

@seachanger @mivox This is probably in the podcast but IIRC it also has to do with conspiracy/fearmongering around electric cars and them having shorter ranges than IC engines? Enforcing not straying far from home? Which is not just about "personal liberty" but a deep white settler freedom/entitlement of movement paranoia IMO.

@impermanen_ WHat happened at UCLA is even more heartbreaking and scary than here, on several levels. Their vote to censure was a dead tie! I'm amazed we were organized enough to pull ours off, but a few folks pulled hard and laid groundwork, and others showed up, and it worked
