My 8yo son just informed me that when he gets a new pack of Pokemon, he likes to imagine it as a spinning wheel of possibilities that doesn't come into existence until he opens the pack and sees what it is. 🤯
In “Today I felt old”: I was talking with a group of new staff at my university about why the library doesn’t collect certain types of student data and said “Remember the Patriot Act…”
Reader, they did not remember the Patriot Act. #libraries
Added an "elsewhere" page to my site to list other places you can find me online. Slowly building this thing out. https://www.johnxlibris.com/elsewhere/
Thanks, John. Your site feels much tidier than mine, which is inspiring me to do some trimming!
Glad I'm getting to see your site(s) as well, Lisa. I feel like I must have read your post about the similarities between blogs and commonplace books years ago, so it's great to see it again!
The winter garden is in! I have carrots, golden beets, celery, Tokyo bekana, onions, garlic, cabbage, spinach, and potatoes. The okra, peppers, and watermelon are still trucking along as well (such is garden life in a coastal zone 10b). In planter trays I have fledgling cauliflower and Brussel sprouts, but they are slow-going and I’m starting to suspect I’ll need transplant s. #gardening
#introductions Hi! 👋 I'm John and I'm an academic #librarian in #LosAngeles where I head up my library's outreach and engagement team. I've been working in libraries for about 15 years.
I love spending time #gardening, listening to podcasts, wine tasting (read: drinking), reading, and being with my family.
We might buy a piano soon.
I was an avid user of the bird site since 2007 but stopped posting over a year ago. I miss the community of library folk I found there. 😢
Which reminds me, I must post today’s podcast. My guest is a legally blind author who writes blind characters with agency. I am in awe! (I am vision impaired, that’s not ableist inspo pron, it’s “omg one of my tribe beat bigotry to do this awesome thing”.)
