Almost, here is the one that worked: for i in *.avi; do ffmpeg -i “$i” -ss 00:00:00 -t 00:00:10 ~/Public/test/${i%.*}.avi ; done

After messing around with the lights for ages, I just stopped all the trains and deleted the whole station and tracks 10 squares in all directions. I rebuilt everything, and now it works. I wish I knew why, but at least it works. Thanks!
