The fact that google search is now full of nonsense is hardly surprising given they’ve scraped all the websites and killed traffic to the original sites indiscriminately. The fact that nobody considered the dangers in this, or not enough to fix it, is peak Google.

Do I know anyone who can make GameBoy music and/or sound effects? I don’t have much of a budget but I can pay some

Lunch was taken up with doing some more work on the manifest for the NerdHaven collection sale, i've now updated some of the software https://johnnyblanchard.com/sales/nerdhaven-manifest-sale.htm

If you missed the original message then I need to sell the whole collection, for anyone able to get to Basingstoke with a van you can get an immediate retro collection for £6000

I thought I'd never see the day. A Playstation emulator on the App Store.

(I have no nostalgia for PS1 games and think they haven't aged well at all but that's not the point here)

@stooovie it sort of works, I got 1/2 games I tried to load

It's been a year since @ericadirector agreed, for some odd reason, to be my wife. Here's to many more years with one of the most caring women and talented theatre/film directors it's been my pleasure to know

Well, things are taking a potential turn. If anyone in the UK has £6k and can get a van to Basingstoke then they can come and pick up the contents of NerdHaven. It contains a whole bunch of systems, accessories and games including a pile of boxes PC Engine consoles, the whole of the PC Engine Volume collection and every Super Cassette Vision and Cassette vision game. Plus computers, tools and spares

It's been 60 years since the original build of BASIC was released, so here's a loosely connected video https://youtu.be/aQ9sPtgwd1o

Created an OpenSCAD script to make the key caps for the EXL 100 keyboard. It’s a bit clunky to use because I can’t do multi-material in OpenSCAD so you have to run it twice, once for the cap, once for the letter and then merge them together. I think they look pretty good

On the subjects of the end of the Z80 run and the Spectrum’s birthday, did you know that processor type is just one of the many things you can filter articles by on the re-enthused website? https://re-enthused.com/category/processor/z80/

Happy birthday to the Sinclair Spectrum, the fact it was cheap enough that my family could afford a second-hand one meant I had a chance to learn software development in an era where the only IT lesson available was typing

Jesus, watching a video about a 3D printer and it might well have been made by the horrible ‘HOW TO GET A MILLION VIEWS’ shysters. Misleading clickbait title in an attempt to be controversial, start with ‘This wasn’t the video I intended to make’ staccato delivery with pop up titles and graphics

the fact that shit like this works makes me not want to bother anymore

New arrival, a lovely boxed Mattel Aquarius. The box it a little beaten up but the manuals and keyboard overlay are all present

Sold my A590 Amiga Hard drive on eBay and i'm being reminded why I steer clear of eBay. The seller hasn't paid yet and upon looking at their profile it's looking fairly dodgy

jonn_blanchard,
@jonn_blanchard@retrochat.online avatar

@elb Unfortunately, yes. Our recent decisions have made shipping anywhere expensive

It’s odd when people look back on the Spectrum with zero context. “Well this was just built cheap - it doesn’t have x, it doesn’t do x” yes, that was the point - it was designed to allow as many people as possible to get access to a computer. No way could my family have afforded anything else

jonn_blanchard,
@jonn_blanchard@retrochat.online avatar

It accidentally became a gaming powerhouse, not because of its ability, it was mid-tier at best there, but because of its install base which gave it a wide audience and a stream of devs who became REALLY good at getting the best from it. (I mention this in a video I made for the UKIE a few years back)

I’ve only just noticed these lovely French stamps on the box from my recently received EXL 100

jonn_blanchard,
@jonn_blanchard@retrochat.online avatar

@vga256 I assume they were used to ship something to the person I bought the ExL 100 to me, because another shipping company’s postal sheet had destroyed some of them :(. Cool to see though

If you’re going to emulate a system, I’d recommend using a Raspberry Pi with a 3D printed case over buying a system made by the arses behind The400 mini
