Does anyone know about an {academic, non-profit, non-commercial} project working on open sourcing the fundamental processes of ? The basic patents will soon or are already expired. This opens huge possibilities for medical progress in a coordinated and comparably low-cost way, IMHO. Which is why I booked openmrna.{com,net,org} a while ago. But I’d happily donate the domain names for free to a worthy project.

In my naive fantasy I hope for open downstreaming of . Standardised, open hardware/software mRNA production machines, connected globally, where you “feed” the network mRNA code from a sort of library with approved /certified code that gets produced locally in those machines. Like a global, non-profit network of 3D printers. It makes so much sense, IMHO.

I am starting to miss the "hide reply" option from #Twitter. Some of my toots attract reply-guys with their typical negativity that I would really like to remove from some threads to keep the positivity of other replies alive. UPDATE: Or implemented as a Content Warning style option (“Hidden by thread owner/curator”) where the reader has to consciously click to reveal the content.

@craigmaloney Yes, I can mute them in my timeline. But the "hide reply" option twitter style hides that specific reply for everyone reading the thread. Big difference!

(FYI: if you have a nasty comment in a thread under your tweets, as the author of the original tweet, you can select "hide reply" and thus hide that specific reply from all readers of the thread, not just yourself)

@raccoon Yes, I know that. I also know how to mute and block. The "hide reply" option on Twitter however works different. It hides the reply from the thread, for everyone reading the thread, not just for me and my personal timeline.

@DrArtAnalytics Yes. I feel responsible for „my“ threads and as I also use threads as a way to add comments to my blog and other static pages (see https://jan.wildeboer.net/2023/02/Jekyll-Mastodon-Comments/ ) I’d really like to be able to moderate. And I’d be perfectly fine with an implementation that allows the reader to still open the hidden reply, if he/she/they wish to do so instead if it not showing up at all. Kinda like a content warning by the thread „owner“.

What would this look like? Say I have a toot about whatever topic. A science topic. People start discussing in the thread. And someone thinks it’s “funny” to post a reply with “You suck, mr. Wildeboer, with your stupid hat”. I would like to be able to hide that reply. Or, even worse, but more typical, two people in the replies start attacking each other, which leads the whole toot and thread into chaos, making people feel uncomfortable to participate in the discussion. “hide reply” would help.

This evening will be dedicated to comparing the 1989 CD and the 2023 vinyl of 3 Feet High and Rising. They had to recreate some samples from the original version that weren't licensed correctly. Will I be able to hear the difference? I guess not. Will I enjoy that groundbreaking classic album? I damn sure will :)

This is one of the good things about , IMHO. It was clearly communicated by the government, especially minister of economics, Habeck, that we had to collectively reduce natural gas consumption by 20% to make it through the winter. And while in public there was a loud and polarised discussion, the people and companies DID save more than 20%. Impressive! And tells you that you can sometimes ignore the clickbait media and trust your fellow citizens. I like!

And no, please don't do this. It's a waste of energy. These "AI" thingies are just like blockchain in that regard. We really need to stop wasting precious resources in this way, IMHO. Maybe I'll add a to my original toot.

Mein Pro-Tipp: seid ihr so genervt wie ich, wenn ihr beim Einkaufen tragt und deshalb dumm angequasselt werdet? Habt ihr auch die Erfahrung gemacht, dass sachliche Argumente ( ist nicht vorbei; möchte mich schützen; habe ein ; möchte schwer Erkrankte in der Familie schützen etc.) da absolut nicht helfen?

Antwortet einfach "ich bin scheißhässlich, es geht nicht anders". Damit habt ihr das WTF-Moment auf eurer Seite und es herrscht sofort Ruhe. Für euch (mehrfach) erprobt.

hat von mir seit langer Zeit eine Abstellerlaubnis. Deswegen muss ich morgen zur Postfiliale. Weil DHL beschlossen hat ein Paket nicht selbst, sondern über unseren Briefträger ausliefern zu lassen. Der weiß allerdings nix von der Abstellerlaubnis. Also Zettel im Briefkasten und morgen hinfahren. Le sigh.

Back from the dentist. It was time today. Two crowns fitted and glued in permanently. After 23 years of not getting that fixed. Don’t be like me. Sometimes good enough isn’t. This is definitely a boost for my self-esteem and good for my dental health. I like my smile again :)

In case you are obsessed with knowing more: One tooth was root-canaled 23 years ago and filled/rebuilt with a temporary cement. Which lasted until 3 weeks ago, when we prepared everything for the crowns. The one next to it was at the point of breaking due to its big filling with amalgam, 32 years ago. Both are now covered with ceramic crowns that should last 10-15 years. And both look extremely good and natural. A perfect job by my dentist and his lab.
