Humane made a bad product based on obviously non-functional technologies, and it got bad reviews. Those accurate bad reviews saved many people who might have spent a ridiculous amount of money on snake oil from doing so.

This is one of those rare instances where the system worked. Anybody who's mad about it must believe that Humane "deserved" better. It's important to ask them why they think a company that deliberately tried to mislead consumers with a crappy product deserves another shot.
