Anthropic released an iOS app for their Claude 3 LLM.

I’m past the stage that dismisses LLMs. Some variant will be a useful tool for me. For various tasks. Some I haven’t thought of yet. I’m currently using them as research assistants on topics I’m writing about. To see if detailed prompts (several hundred words with topic headings etc) get responses that include things I’d overlooked. I don’t use any generated text directly.

I might use Claude as a tutor for some studying I plan.

knitter,

@ianRobinson Actually, in I cannot access the app. Shame, would have liked to try it.

I told I wanted an ASCII art of a volvo driving in Texas. It first told me I had to sign in to create images. I told it I wasn't asking for an image, but ASCII art. It then complied with something that doesn't look like a Volvo, and definitely has nothing that even stereotypically looks Texan.

knitter,

@cs At least it tried. Gpt2-chatbot probably would have done a better job.

knitter,

@cs Fair enough. I was actually referring to the new model that hasn't been officially released yet.

Listening to The Ezra Klein Show (What if Dario Amodei Is Right About A.I.?): https://nytimes.com/2024/04/12/opinion/ezra-klein-podcast-dario-amodei.html

Back in 2018, Dario Amodei worked at OpenAI. And looking at one of its first A.I. models, he wondered: What would happen as you fed an artificial intelligence more and more data? He and his colleagues decided to study it, and they found that the A.I. didn’t just get better with more data; it got better exponentially.

knitter,

@ianRobinson What do you make of it?

Everyone has an opinion on AI. Some think we have it now, some say that we don't. I think we are splitting hairs. I don't think it matters if the machines are actually intelligent or not. Horses, for example, are intelligent, but their utility was eclipsed by the automotive industry. We are all horses. It doesn't matter if the machines are intelligent.

knitter,

@deshipu @lrt The poor horses have been turned into meat.

knitter,

@deshipu @lrt Have you read Nick Bostrom's book superintelligence? He's also pretty pessimistic but at least he sees potential paths.

knitter,

@lrt @deshipu It's a dense philosophical book but he discusses how AI might take over and how humanity could mitigate bad outcomes.

knitter,

@kuketzblog Warum tut Google dies? Verstehe es nicht. Wäre echt schade, wenn das das Aus ist.

Japan's government and dairy associations have begun to focus on promoting increased consumption of milk and other dairy products to drive demand and help farmers. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/07/13/business/struggling-dairy-producers/?utm_content=buffer31cc5&utm_medium=social&utm_source=mastodon&utm_campaign=bffmstdn
