    Hmm, now that you mention it, I should figure out what the shortest focus distance is on the 1000mm telescope that I have a Canon adapter for. Not very agile, but it the birds could please sit still for a while...?

    Ach, mal wieder eine als "Journalismus" verbrämte -Pressemitteilung von einer Plastikgetränkfirma in der @RNZonline

    Trinkbeutel sind absolut nicht recyclebar und sind für mindestens 18.000 Tonnen Plastik-Alu- verantwortlich. Da sind Umverpackung und Transporte noch nicht mal dabei.

    Klar dürften die das nicht. Aber es ist unerträglich, dass dort immer alles im Passiv steht. Da wird dann jemand auf dem Rad angefahren, das aber "von einem Auto" und dann "verletzt sich" der/die Radfahrer*in. Oder hier: der Diesel ist die Verschmutzung, aber der Text ist komplett passiv. Der Diesel ist doch nicht vom Himmel gefallen.

    So werden verbal Verantwortlichkeiten negiert oder so lange normalisiert, bis es in den Köpfen ist.

    Ich vermute, das Auto fuhr zu langsam und hat dadurch das Gleichgewicht verloren.

    Ja, zum Glück nicht schwer. Die Verkehrsinsel ist ein Zwangs-Wartepunkt für Rad/Fussverkehr, wenn man in eine bestimmte Richtung weiter will.

    Und 5m weiter ist der Schulweg meines Sohnes.

    The last swatch watch I had lasted over 18 years, from when I started university in 2005 to late fall 2023 (and I like it enough to try to get someone to repair it, even though it's likely going to be more expensive than a new watch - still, recs for watch repair places in Leiden and environs welcome). That makes me really, really tempted to buy one of the ESA/spaced themed ones they have on offer now: https://www.swatch.com/nl-nl/search?prefn1=brand&prefv1=Swatch&q=esa - but my wrists are a bit too thin for them :(

    There are a number of after-market producers for the bands. We bought one for ~5€ that matched.

    And yes, not repairable, indeed. Stil, the amount of plastic is less than for ~500g of Tofu, so I think that is a very limited amount of waste. If I wanted to reduce waste I'd start somewhere else - this would not deter me from buying a Swatch if I really wanted one. If I just want a good watch, then I would indeed buy something different.

    I haven't used a wrist-watch for a long time. Always felt uncomforable when typing on a keyboard. So the last watch I bought was a Swatch, ca. 2000.

    I think that would be amazing, to have repairable Swatches. But right now, 30g plastic is not in any way a significant problem for me. People that drive an ICE car burn that much fossil fuels every 500m, and Swatches are unlikely to be just thrown into the environment or oceans.

    And yes, tofu-packaging is getting on my nerves. Almost no veggie protein source without plastic wrapper. Except for soy flakes.

    Even beyond that. The smallest packaging to content by weight I get for 400g blocks of Tofu. I always wanted to make a list of package weight. Sometimes it's 20+g of plastic for 120g of content AND NO LARGER PORTIONS OF THAT PRODUCT AVAILABLE!
