One Goatherd…

…but how many goats is he tending?
A sunny spring day on the western end of the Kyrenia Mountains some 400m above the village of Karşıyaka, Northern Cyprus March 2024.

Panagia Ton Katharon.

The abandoned church of the Panagia Ton Katharon Christian Monastery, on the south-facing flanks of the Kyrenia Mountains in Northern Cyprus.
The site was founded in the 8th Century, and - famously - kept an religious relic that could, it was claimed, cure severe eye injuries…

Stairs, again.

An access stair to the defensive wall from within Kyrenia Castle - Research suggests the Byzantines built the castle in the 7th Century to guard the city. The first historical reference to the castle is in 1191, when King Richard I captured it on his way to the Third Crusade.

A summer pasture south of the Kyrenia Mountains in Northern Cyprus, where 300-Class Mercedes Cars go to die (…or at least, to be recycled). February 2024.

    @robdaw
    You’re posting some great work Rob - 👏
    Just an observation, however: You might find that many more folk will boost your shots if you provide some Alt Text for each one.
    Indeed - it’s my experience that there’s many who will not boost - on principal - without text assistance for the partially sighted…

    Generations.

    Mehmet Acar performing on the harbour side in Kyrenia, North Cyprus - I’m led to believe he’s (well - at least he was some years ago ) a top Turkish crooner. Anyway, he attracted quite a crowd…

    Cengo’s wheels.

    A vintage Vespa scooter, used as a runabout by one of North Cyprus’s real gentlemen. Cengo is a local goatherd, importer of exotic furniture, and home & lifestyle guru… and quite a character.

    In hindsight (a fine thing…), long trousers might have been the better choice for hiking a trail overgrown with particularly vicious scrub in the Kyrenia mountains of North Cyprus…

    Colonisation or Colonization?

    A large number of snails have adopted as home a Mediterranean Sea Squill plant. This doesn’t appear to be a symbiotic relationship - as the snails seem to have eaten large parts of the leaves… Interesting, as the plant is poisonous to many animals, and historically has been used to make rat poison ☠️
