I'm honestly annoyed with PC gamers' response to Helldivers 2 requiring PSN accounts.

Refunding a game you've played for >200hrs because you have to make a new account? It's so childish.

If you're worried about a data breach or something, do what most security-conscious people do: use a unique username/password.

If you're in one of the few countries where PSN isn't an option you have a legit argument once they actually lock you out but the devs already say they're working on that problem.

If you're getting btfo because Sony wants your gameplay data, I have no sympathy.

I have plenty of issues with Sony. This ain't one of them

@lyrenhex@social.lyrenhex.com avatar

@padraig @neatchee to be fair here, I actually discovered today whilst discussing exactly this that on the US PlayStation store, you can purchase a Steam code directly from Sony without ever going to the Steam page or creating a Sony account (it just asks for an email address).
Nowhere on that page does it actually mention that you will need a Sony account, either (rather, it specifically says that you "currently do not" need to do so, with no indication that they intended to change that).

I think that's a fair situation to be complaining about, since you can give them money without ever being told they planned to do this?

I am very annoyed with Sony. I can't log in to my PlayStation account because ALL of their sign-in forms were changed to only allow 32 characters. I default to 64 character random passwords, which they previously allowed, so now I can't enter my password anymore

WTF Sony? You decreased security everywhere and didn't even notify people with passwords that are no longer compliant? The least you could do is force a reset when I try to log in next.

EDIT: Obviously the solution is just change my password but jfc is this dumb

lyrenhex,
@lyrenhex@social.lyrenhex.com avatar

@neatchee if this is the same change as the one that changed the design to be all 'modern' - that change also tripped a bug in Firefox that would cause the entire browser to hard freeze.

which is insane. I don't know how the new login page shipped to prod when that was an issue at the time...

I am personally offended that you can't make programs in Visual Basic 6 anymore without them getting flagged as viruses.
That's like being scared of Legos

lyrenhex,
@lyrenhex@social.lyrenhex.com avatar

@foone wait, as in they get actually caught by virus scanners now?

I remember a few years (... about a decade, jesus) ago SmartScreen would consistently dislike them, but :oof:

Now that the holidays are basically over for me: the CD haul! (... Finally. Some of this has taunted me being at my normal home.)

's Soundtrack - that I've listened to so far, at least - is really good! Not disappointed there. :ablobcatrave:

But my god, I can't really show it in a photo because it's reflective (doesn't do it justice), but the design on the Nier discs is beautiful imo. Super heckin' cool. :lyrenhStar:

@mcc oh no have they rolled out the new layout they've been trialling for a while?

it sucks. apparently it's not as bad on iOS, but jfc on Android it just sucks.

edit: s/sucks/sucked, apparently iOS and Android are now roughly in parity. still dislike it, but hey, at least Android isn't arbitrarily worse!

Open 3D Engine (O3DE) 23.10 open source game engine released, and according to a Senior Research Engineer at Huawei it's "the only really open game engine out there, and it’s the only fully open source, royalty-free solution that exists at this time"...erm what 😕

I ordered hardware from Thomann (a German reseller) and shipped one set to Canada and one set to the UK.

The Canada order was 10% cheaper and will arrive earlier (despite starting from Frankfurt). How's Brexit going for y'all?

lyrenhex,
@lyrenhex@social.lyrenhex.com avatar

@fasterthanlime if it's a multi-item consignment worth over £135 then you're bloody lucky if you don't get incorrectly hit with double-VAT because the rules are stupid as all hell. ;)

(I despise the fact that Brexit happened. Ugh.)

lyrenhex,
@lyrenhex@social.lyrenhex.com avatar

@fasterthanlime ... ah. Assuming Thomann charged VAT at checkout, if you get hit with VAT on import lmk, I have an email "template" for it.

(Spot the guy who's been burned by this rule too many times lmfao.)

Though looking at Thomann's website it looks like they even cover duty, so maybe it'll work out? Honestly kinda nice to see!

Hey has YouTube always cut round corners out of the videos when you play them in normal mode? Now that I'm noticing them they're just… they're really big.

It frustrates me so much that the companies that control everything think we want to see less of every piece of content. Daydreaming about simply removing the "rounded corners" feature from CSS in my web browser*

Corners

lyrenhex,
@lyrenhex@social.lyrenhex.com avatar

@mcc huh, definitely wasn't like that last time I watched a video in the default view...

(if it helps, cinema mode doesn't have that problem. instead, you get to be very annoyed every time a video has black bars at the top and bottom baked in!)

I'm tweaking my blog's CSS. Because what else is Sunday for!

First up - tags.

Which do you prefer:

  • The # being part of the link?
  • The # separate from the link?
lyrenhex,
@lyrenhex@social.lyrenhex.com avatar

@Edent definitely as part of (or, if not, the # should really be styled a lot fainter than the actual tag. The screenshot there draws too much of my attention to the # itself)

Edent, to random
@Edent@mastodon.social avatar

All other things being equal, which of these coding conventions do you prefer?

property(object) or object.property() ?

For example, length($things) or $things.length()

What about if you are manipulating the object? E.g. upperCase($text) or $text.upperCase()

(Not doing a poll because I'd prefer a discussion.)

lyrenhex,
@lyrenhex@social.lyrenhex.com avatar

@Edent Much prefer the latter - the former feels like I'm passing an object around rather than getting an intrinsic property of it (which while more accurate just feels less clean to me - abstraction is nice).

wait a sec, 's getting another season next year?

it's been years! Nostalgia's going to make me end up re-watching it all, isn't it...? ah well. can't complain too much, it was my first lmao.

... though I've made atrocious progress on the other anime I really should watch in the time since, lmfao. oops.

Might as well test out this Threads thingy… https://threads.net/@gaming0nlinux

So far though it’s super basic and there’s only an algorithm feed so it’s a bit gross.

@gamingonlinux Assuming you copied that from the app in some way, looks like their links are wrong, btw.
It works if you remove the "t/" part.
