There aren't enough corned beef recipes. It's basically just corned beef and cabbage, corned beef hash, reubens or make it into pastrami

@decryption Today's was even more excellent than usual. The Chromakey vid and the volumetric display vid were fucking unreal.

    I've written a pretty niche blog post on how I turn Proxmox Backup Server on and off to only use excess solar generation using Home Assistant: https://myles.eftos.id.au/blog/2024/02/08/proxmox-backups-when-the-sun-is-shining/

    Seeing a lot of Reddit posts like this. Maybe, just maybe, this is actually a growing sentiment in Australia and there's a minuscule chance something will be done about it?

    madpilot,
    @madpilot@aus.social avatar

    @decryption @wallamba I was literally bitching about this yesterday. There is zero reason for cars that big. Especially in suburbia.

    Missing product: a very small battery backup UPS that can deliver a full 10A to (say) a NAS for just the second or three it takes the house to switch to battery during a grid outage. You can get high-current/high-capacity and low-current/low-capacity, but not high-current/low-capacity.

    madpilot,
    @madpilot@aus.social avatar

    @chendo @sentience depends on the outage type. If it’s due to slow falling frequency (ie overloaded grid), it’ll be more or less instant. Sudden drop there would be a slight delay

    F*ck there are some selfish people about. On a train to Frankston and there's a person in front of us on a loud speaker call with the phone held a couple of centimetres from her ear. Use it properly or use headphones, for Christ's sake.

    @decryption as someone who worked at Dick Smith through high school and uni, today’s Sizzle image of the day hit me right in the feels.

    The beginners electronics books he produced got me hooked on the hobby I still do thirty-years later.

    @decryption I was literally looking them up for my kids a few days ago! And with cheap PCBs out of china I reckon it wouldn’t be difficult to resurrect some of those kits.

    I’ve totally messed up. I agreed to run a hands on workshop at work about “electronics”. Now I just have to figure out what is interesting but not too hard looks like for people with technical and non technical backgrounds looks like

    madpilot,
    @madpilot@aus.social avatar

    @jpm @vk3tcp literally did this yesterday. Took an ESP32, showed them how to blink the LED. Showed them some code to connect to one of the work APIs (parsed the JSON for them), let them work out how to mash the two together. Was quite well received.

    Hardest bit was getting the Arduino app downloaded in a conference venue (we ended up using sneaker net)
