@seiz It’s Forma DJR which is definitely not a style everyone likes. They have a UI variant that increases spacing I might try tonight.

I find the second boring to look at but I might have bad taste. Still not a bad idea to take another pass at it.

I think it's interesting in obvious ways and risky in some less obvious ones (that have less to do with "O NO BILLIONAIRES" or "O NO LIBERTARIANS" and more to do with placelessness), but we'll see.

I hope good things emerge from/grow on top of this framework.

[I recognize that mentioning this is widely considered to be an invitation to explain capital like I am a tiny baby. You could also not.]

@kissane Its a super interesting idea. Moderation as a filter vs moderation as a core community value. Plus adding in the safety team at bluesky as a legal compliance check.

Moderation is one of the great unsolved problems and it’s good to see different ideas in the space even if I suspect this one assumes positive intent by both parties through the tag system.

One thing that drives me crazy is when someone says “roughly/approximately” + extremely precise number. I just saw “approximately 48.72%”.

Is it that you think your math is wrong? High margin of error? I don’t get it.

One aspect of abandoning their car project that I’m curious to watch is they’re following Ford, VW and a bunch of other companies effectively declaring level 5 self driving to be impossible. Waymo seems to be the last real contender vying for this crown but it’s been a slog.

However has a stock price entirely based on the belief that not only can they deliver that technology, but that they can do so soon. I wonder if investors will start to look at the lack of progress by Tesla in this space and revalue the company as what it is, which is a boutique car company like Lotus or Ferrari.

I write a piece about programming in the apocalypse. Now AI generated emails are flooding my inbox asking me to link to their blog about the “top 100 programming languages”. Or for me to let them write “guest articles” about how to use AI to sell more on Etsy. I’m now getting an email like this once an hour.

So effectively someone determined writing these shit emails wasn’t worth their time, but me reading them was. To all you expert marketers out there, go fuck yourself.

My daughter all day: “I want to see a horse. I want to pet and ride the horse”

Finally bike her to place with horses. She grabs me like a spider monkey as she whispers “go away horse” while this older, completely relaxed horse eats hay. Not only did she not want to pet the horse, I was also forbidden from petting the horse.

One thing I’m surprised isn’t a bigger part of the discourse about social media is how persistent is about pushing pro-Russian and China propaganda.

As a fresh user I got shown video after video either showing parts of the Tucker Carlson interview with Putin or pro-Russian takes on the interview or life in Russia. Blocking these users didn’t seem to dramatically decrease the amount of these videos I was shown. I had to block the user AND stop using the app, like exit it, to get the system to actually stop showing me that content.

There is nothing in my like or follow history to suggest I’m even slightly interested in this content that I can tell. There are also constant conspiracy theories on the platform. Aliens, anti-Covid pieces, fake health scams, it’s incredibly toxic.

After trying it I have no doubt in my mind TikTok should be banned from every App Store. It is full of dark patterns, constantly trying to trick the user into allowing access to contacts or the microphone. It hides options like block under the share icon, which is extremely deceptive. It is shocking that the internet effectively rallied in support of what is basically 4chan lite.

One element of the that really surprises me is the small amount of spam. It's not zero, but its much closer to zero than I would have ever guessed was possible.

It seems like a lot of this is that know the normal traffic patterns of their servers and react quickly to statistical deviations. Plus there's no financial incentive to add more users (in fact the opposite).

I don't have a greater point here except to thank all you hardworking admins.
