Mae ewyllys gyda fi, a’r unig gwrthrychau dw i’n sôn amdano yw fy nghasgliad feinyl, sy’n mynd i ffrind sy newydd ddechrau cael gwared â’i gasgliad ei hun, felly ddim yn debyg bydd e eisiau delio â fy un i. 🤷
Just finished listening to The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by #Genesis for the first time. Wtf was Peter Gabriel smoking when he came up with that story?!!
@buffyleigh Have you listened to any Van der Graaf Generator yet? They were earlydays label-mates of Genesis, never really got the mainstream recognition, but their stuff has aged pretty well. I'd recommend Still Life (1976) as a good starting point, and I wish I’d put this in my 1001 Albums recs!
Starting to find “look at this example of how shit Google AI Overview is" just as tiresome as all other AI content.
We know it's shit. The reason it has fucked up is almost always obvious and easily replicable. It's just badly written software. Pretending it's Skynet isn't helpful.
The “petrol pasta" thing was a shitty chatgpt generated website, the “eat rocks” thing was The Onion, the “presidential alumni of some university” was a that same university's alumni magazine.
It's not “artificial intelligence”, it's bad search engine design.
You can even ask Google how to avoid this shit, and it’ll give you an honest answer:
@natureworks I was just surprised that the actual designer of such a good resource was here on the Fedi. I've never bothered with a postal vote before, as our polling station is literally round the corner - but an election during college holidays is a bit unusual, and we might want to go away that week, so it was good to be reminded to sort it out.
Newydd orffen gwrando ar lyfr sain “Transcendent Kingdom” gan Yaa Gyasi, y tro cyntaf i fi fenthyg llyfr sain o’r llyfrgell.
Gwrandawais ar yr ail hanner ar 1.5x, a phan es i nôl at y cyflymder gwreiddiol am y penodau ola, roedd yn swnio’n araf dros ben. Profiad rhyfedd wrth glywed am raglennu niwral mewn llygod.
@gwenynen ach, ie - de i ddim yn y farchnad am lot o gyfrolau academaidd, ond mae Routledge yn codi crocbris am lyfrau Gareth King, sef rhai o’r llyfrau mwya defnyddiol i bobl sy’n dysgu Cymraeg, tiwtoriaid a dysgwyr
related: do any Mastodon clients show the language tag on used on other people's toots? The web interface doesn’t, Ivory doesn’t, and I haven't got any other clients loaded atm. https://toot.wales/@nic/112501244847385918
I do filter by language, not because I don't like seeing toots in languages I don't understand, or don't know how to use the “translate" button in Ivory, but because I have a fairly busy homefeed, and am lazy. So if I see a toot in a language I don't understand, I almost always just scroll past, unless there's a link to something that catches my eye.
I occasionally get replies here advising me to translate all my toots, so that Welsh learners can learn something, or to increase engagement, or something else you'd have to pay me to care about ;)
fwiw, I filter all languages except the two I post in, the one other I can read slowly and badly (French) and the other ‘Celtic’ languages, which I like to see in my timeline, and often include interesting links about language shift.
...and in case this isn't clear, this isn't a “you're doing Mastodon wrong" toot.
If you toot in a language I don't understand, and don't tag your toots, that's absolutely fine. I usually don't even notice, and if I do I can decide to temp mute, or unfollow, or disable boosts. I’m responsible for my feed, not you.
