@fkamiah17 of course she's into The West Wing like all the people who wish politics wasn't so complicated and problems could be solved by someone giving a speech.
Local elections in two days time, have received four leaflets, one each from the party candidates for city council. Nothing from any of the PCC candidates, or from our independent council candidate, though looking back at last year he seems to be a (Piers) Corbynite conspiracist, so that leaflet would be for amusement only. #ukpolitics
And here's the advantage of uploading election leaflets, you can find what someone was saying last year. https://electionleaflets.org/leaflets/19120/
Amusingly for someone complaining about surveillance and control, he was very easy to find ranting on Facebook...
No Friday night #TOTP for me, as I'm off for some live nostalgia, seeing The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown at Colchester Arts Centre. All together now: " I am the god of hellfire and I bring you..." https://youtu.be/en1uwIzI3SE?si=1Fs2RNb7Fcdgwt7n
Listened to Mel Stride on Today pushing the government's latest line on forcing people with mental health issues off benefits and into work. They're barely trying to mask that they're not doing this to help people lead happy lives but for the needs of "the economy". #UKPolitics
With local elections upon us, and a general election coming sometime soon, a reminder that https://electionleaflets.org/ is a really useful #UKPolitics resource for seeing what candidates are parties are saying across the country. It relies on people uploading leaflets they get, so if you do get some, please pause to take a snap of them before they go into the recycling!
@fkamiah17 I hadn't, been mostly off social media while I was away the last few days. But have seen many dodgy Tory leaflet tricks here over the years. They'd do some smear ones with the imprint saying they were from 'CBC' hoping people would assume it meant the borough council, not 'Colchester Borough Conservatives'.
A tin of crushed pineapple, a packet of marshmallows and a hefty dose of pistachio dust and this delicious Georgia salad could be yours for lunch. 🤮
Optional extra: an entire tub of "whipped topping", whateverthefuck that is.
Americans: shut up about beans on toast forever.
Roman historians refer to the second century as the period of the Five Good Emperors. Will future historians of Britain class 2010-24 as the period of the Five Bad Prime Ministers? #ukpolitics
Someone should tell the Tories - it's been their guiding principle since the 80s. I seem to remember quite a few people said this about globalisation at the time.
A shame Nick didn't think of it while he was working for Theresa May. 🙄 😡
@fkamiah17@girlabtvillage that's the series where a middle-aged man in a position of power gets his ego dented by someone doing something altruistic, and ends up triggering a series of events that make life worse for everyone, right?
