A late

Showing off my new ink journal swatch format, which converts a monthly planner grid from an extra unused 2023 planner into an ink index (:

Lie de thé is the newest entry thanks to inspiration from @SunScales (:

Comparison part 2

Waterman Mysterious Blue (Blue-Black) old vs new formula

Very obvious from the back that the old ink is actually teal while the new is blue.

ankachaos,
@ankachaos@penfount.social avatar

@paradoxmo I bought it a few months ago and was super disappointed to find out I had basically purchased Pelikan Royal Blue 2.0. Now I have an almost.full bottle I don't like

paradoxmo,
@paradoxmo@penfount.social avatar

@ankachaos that’s too bad. I like both formulas, the new formula is definitely on the bluer side of blue black, similar to Pilot Blue-Black. I think it’s most interesting in very wet pens, it doesn’t have the brilliance that Serenity Blue has even in finer/drier pens.

Completely unscientific comparison between two editions of the same

Pic 1,2:

  • Waterman Blue-Black NOS (likely early 2000s)
  • Retro 51 Lincoln / FPR ultraflex 14k

Pic 3,4:

  • Waterman Mysterious Blue (c. 2020)
  • Opus 88 Jazz / Regalia Crossflex

Both on Tomoe River 52gsm original

Old ink leans teal if looking closely, and the sheen looks redder. The new ink is more straight up dark blue, and the sheen looks more gold. Purportedly reformulated ~2015.

Shoutout to my dumb phone for autocorrecting “uninked” to “inked”, changing the ENTIRE MEANING OF THE SENTENCE 😡

Lucky I caught it that time, I’ve definitely not caught dumb shit like this in the past

keraba,
@keraba@mastodon.social avatar

@paradoxmo
There really should be a way to (or a policy in place that) prevent more than single-character auto-corrections. The larger ones I've seen are like huh? and I have to go back and "correct" them.

And what stops them from highlighting any auto-correction, so I can verify?

paradoxmo,
@paradoxmo@penfount.social avatar

@keraba my phone does highlight autocorrect, but only for one word further than the autocorrected word, after which the highlight disappears. So it’s not very hard to miss it.

#Vintage Pelikan vs. Modern Pelikan

Comparison between Pelikan 140 (c. 1960) and Pelikan M400 (c. 2010), both green-striped.

The color of the 140 has faded from age and sun exposure, but you can see that near the section, there is about a centimeter of stripe that would usually be under the cap and wouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight. So the color there is actually much closer to the modern M400.

@paradoxmo in that case, not a comparison, just a demonstration of the different vintage nibs?

paradoxmo,
@paradoxmo@penfount.social avatar

@alexa488 I haven’t posted any writing samples of the 400 nib yet so I plan to do that soon. Both that and the 140 are EF. I posted the 140 a month or so ago, I used it for Kong Guys: https://penfount.social/@paradoxmo/112247197772491822

Also anyone with experience with the Tramol JoWo #6 pen? Pro Gear clone with JoWo nib included. $60 seems steep but there aren’t a lot of options for JoWo #6 compatible pens on a budget, so could be a contender.

Anyone know anything about this pen, OSOA A016? it’s on Bobby’s ChinesePen store. Seems to have decent user reviews, but I’ve never heard of this thing

paradoxmo,

@jimp there’s also a clipless version of the A1, that’s the one I have. Or you could try a Décimo, the clip on the Capless and A1 doesn’t work for me, but the Décimo clip is OK. I guess because it’s thinner and more flush with the pen.

Just filled the last page of my ink journal and will start a new one this week. I’ll take some snaps of all the swatches in the index for #SwatchWednesday (: I’ve catalogued around 170 inks so far across two ink journals.

Saw this quick review by MarcyMe of this year’s SE Pelikan Edelstein ink, Golden Lapis, seems to be same gold shimmer as in the Golden Beryl but with a blue base color.

Thoughts?

jezlyn,
@jezlyn@mastodon.social avatar

@paradoxmo I was reminded when I wrote with one of my currently inked pens that Van Diemans Azure Kingfisher is a similar ink that has some red sheen and looks very cool. The sample I have has been well-behaved in the Nahvalur Voyage that’s been inked with it for over a month. I’m planning on buying a bottle of that, so I won’t need the Golden Lapis.

paradoxmo,
@paradoxmo@penfount.social avatar

@jezlyn nice. Yeah, I think it’s not nearly as unique as Golden Beryl
