I don’t know how that Synology DS423+ could consume 50W idle. It seems veeery strange to me. I mean, my E5-2620 V2 on a 10/15 years old Supermicro motherboard with 16GB of RAM, 4 idle SATA 3,5" hard drives and 2 SSD is consuming 55W! Something doesn’t sound right to me.

A PR disaster: Microsoft has lost trust with its users, and Windows Recall is the straw that broke the camel's back (www.windowscentral.com)

It’s a nightmare scenario for Microsoft. The headlining feature of its new Copilot+ PC initiative, which is supposed to drive millions of PC sales over the next couple of years, is under significant fire for being what many say is a major breach of privacy and security on Windows. That feature in question is Windows Recall, a...

peregus,

Microsoft has already taken a step back: Microsoft implements drastic changes to Recall after criticism

  • Recall needs to be enabled during installation
  • Windows Hello is needed so that only the users can view it’s own screenshots
  • Recall database will be encrypted
peregus,

Even for PCs that come with Windows preinstalled, there’s still the need to set it up at the first start (account, privacy and such), so I think that the option to enable Recall will be there.

peregus,

there must be a horde of MSFT employees holding back the urge of saying “told you so” to their boss right now lol

🤣

peregus,

What are those trackers? Can it block apps from using Google Play Services?

peregus,

I use it too and I like it, but OP needs to keep in mind that the apps that rely on Google Play Services will still have “Internet access” directly with it and Netguard can’t do anything about it. WhatsApp for example: you can block Internet access to the apps, but it will still be able to send/receive messages.

peregus,

Oh, I see, , “normal” tracker. I’ve asked because I thought it could be something different since the OP was asking to block Internet and not the tracker. I’ve had a look at the app and it doesn’t seems to me that it can block Internet access to other apps.

How is everyone handling the 2FA requirement for GitHub? (docs.github.com)

Just wondering what people are using to meet the 2FA requirement GitHub has been rolling out. I don’t love the idea of having an authenticator app installed on my phone just to log into GitHub. And really don’t want to give them my phone number just to log in....

peregus, (edited )

Totally agree! 2FA on all the accounts that support it avoiding SMS. And different passwords (complex, auto generated by a password manager) for each single account. I may be paranoid, but I also use a different email alias (SimpleLogin) for every single account! 😆

peregus,

Because you can’t just copy the files of a running DB (if I got what you mean).

peregus,

I would never deploy Compose in any kind of production environment.

May I ask you why?

peregus, (edited )

Question: why don’t you crate your own Grafana dashboard? Do you have too many servers?

peregus,

I don’t think that there even is a non easy way to install HA on Proxmox?

PayPal will use your purchase information and shopping patterns to sell targeted ads (www.theverge.com)

“If you’re someone who’s buying products on the web, we know who is buying the products where, and we can leverage the data,” Grether said in a statement to the WSJ. He also said that PayPal will receive shopping data from customers using its credit card in stores....

peregus,

Cheques? Who uses those anymore? I see them useful maybe for a down payment for a house. I don’t think that there is a merchant today that would accept them.

peregus,

As much as I’d like PayPal to have competition, I’ve seen the share chart and there’s a flexion just this month (not a so small one, but it’s just a month).

What the EU has done with instant bank transfer is great, but I think that the 15 seconds limit is too much for that function to be used by other apps (Satispay) to transfer money. I mean, 15 seconds is nothing, but waiting in line at the supermarket standing still for 15 seconds will fill an eternity!

peregus,

If it’s less than that, it could work. The problem about asking the IBAN could be bypassed by QR codes in shops. I think that the instant bank transfer (if very fast) could help the rise of other apps that don’t have to pay fees to the credit card circuit and so be competitive and compete with PayPal.

peregus,

I self host a lot of services, but I will never self host my email server If any of my self hosted service would have to go down, I will work on it as soon as I can, but it coudl that it’s not that soon. If I would have self hosted my own email server at it would go down, I would have to work on it straight away because usually after 24/48 hours the other email server give up and send back the email (that was directed to me) to the sender, I could not receive airplane ticket for example and a lot of other stuff. What if that would happen when I’m on holiday in the other side of the world??? 🙈

peregus,

Mmm…I’m notr trying to virtualize anything. I’ll edit the post to make it clear.

peregus,

I’ve just edited the original post to make clear that Proxmox has nothing to do in this picture, it just is installed in the same PC where the NICs are. What I need it just assign 6 VLAN (tagged, coming in from enp2s0) to 6 NICs (untagged to: enp9s1f0, enp9s1f1, enp9s2f0, enp9s2f1, enp10s1f0, enp10s1f1).

peregus,

Of course! But I must advice that you will be limited to 1/0,5Gbps! 😁

peregus,

That’s it, thanks!!! So easy!!! Thanks a lot!

I know that it would be better to use a switch, but I would need a 10Gbps (or 2,5Gbps, do they exists) switch with 2 sfp+ port (1 for Internet connection and the second one for the server). In this way I’ve just bought the 3 old NIC for 25€ and that’s it. I know that they will consume way more than the switch, but how many years do I need to break even?

peregus,

There are no switches in play!

peregus,

OPNsense is in one PC (and it only works as router/firewall), Proxmox is on another PC with all the NICs and Proxmos and it will also work as switch.

peregus,

I know that you are right…sorry, but…

peregus,

I Just didn’t know how to do it; @Kryesh in its post up here told me. Pretty easy!

peregus,

I completely missed your reply, sorry. My system cools and heats, and I really would like to avoid addons to avoid possible brakes in future updates. Do you think that it would be possible to do it with automation? (They can finally be divided into categories!)
