Is there some kind of dribbble/behance equivalent portfolio platform for interface designers to show non-visual design or non-graphic design oriented work?

With projects & essays like these on interface exploration?

https://a9.io/glue-comic/

Where folks come up with novel UI metaphors, conventions, design concepts, patterns, affordances & write extensively on it?

Where they can experiment and showcase prototypes of novel UI concepts, patterns, conventions, paradigms supplemented with essays

@impactology Not as fun as Dribbble and not a portfolio platform, but as a reader this has given me interesting new ideas and food for thought in the past along the lines you describe: https://interfacecritique.net

@impactology It’s been a while and I no longer have access to the library I put these in, but I can try 😅 Especially in times like now where big corps optimize all the UIs to squeeze out every last bit of attention, I find it helpful to understand computing from different perspectives, e.g. laid out in the editorial of vol 1: programmatic, genealogies, philosophies, projects, politics. https://interfacecritique.net/journal/volume-1/editorial/

Some other articles I enjoyed:

@impactology There are at least two more articles I remember liking a lot, but can't find them. Maybe they're in the 2016 book. Note to self: don't build a library for a company that you will leave, build it for yourself 😬

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@impactology You should write an article for them, I'm sure it would be a great fit! (And I need to start reading newer editions again, I have put it aside for a while now …)

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@impactology Judging from your posts I've read on here so far, I think that is more than enough of a credential – thoughts like yours are what I'd expect to be published there :) I recommend to get in touch with them!

What’s your favorite movie? 🧟‍♀️
Feel free to cite a serious one + a fun one :)

@elduvelle To add to what has already been mentioned, I‘d add these two for nostalgic reasons 💀

Jackson’s Braindead
Raimi’s Army of Darkness

I like reading other people’s introductions through , so here’s mine. I’m following @mustamakkara’s lead and am making this a chronological PC nostalgia edition from my early years 👾

  1. Space Invaders
  2. Lemmings
  3. Prince of Persia
  4. Sim City
  5. Monkey Island
  6. Stars!
  7. Total Annihilation

I still remember dad’s computer in the attic where I played 1, 2, and 3. And then later my own always underspecced machine for 4, 5, 6, and 7.

The leader of the German conservatives introduced the idea to collaborate with the far right AfD yesterday. He knows that he won’t get kicked out or replaced as the party leader. He will paddle back a bit after some backlash and that’s it. It doesn’t matter that he just meant on a community level either. The idea to collaborate with Nazis is now officially speakable without consequences. I feel sick!!

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@bastianallgeier It's terrifying to observe. And not just in Germany … 😨

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@bastianallgeier I feel like so much was done right: laws, memorials and museums, so much education in all the channels. It's just that they found new ways to subvert society, and they always will, and we have to fight back. And I don't know how and that is scary …

What I love about this video is how all the composers’ styles and musical concepts are named and understood. It's also a great example of the musical art behind it all: each variation brings out the artistic thinking of the respective composers, providing insight into how deliberately they crafted their styles.

For that I'm not a person of faith, I have quite a lot of perfect singles that address the Lord 🤷‍♂️

In the Presence of the Lord – Blind Faith
The Lord is Listenin’ to Ya, Hallelujah! – Carla Bley
My Sweet Lord – George Harrison
Lord’s Mistake – Candy Says
The Lord Has Come Back Today – Pixies

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@sarajw In my case it isn't really from the religious music genre, more that regular rock/jazz bands sometimes make a Lord-themed song :) But I get what you/your father mean: there's lots of pathos in that music, which can totally get under your skin!

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@sarajw Definitely, many of those are quite solemn!

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@sarajw Yes, a bit cheesy, but I get why you get tingles all over :) However this particular kind of music is a bit painful for me, because it very much reminds me of the free churches that sucked up some friends of mine, and my wife couldn't have married me would she not have parted ways with those … So interesting how music is often about sometimes very big personal contexts and is really very subjective!

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@sarajw I'm always of the opinion that everyone knows what's best for them and happy if they find their calling. But yes, I draw a bit of a line with those pushy ones, also with the music … Still fine-ish if people are happy, but not fine if they keep them from leaving. In my case, one of those churches lured us youths with expensive video equipment and rocking parties, but then slowly cut the ties to the outside world.

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@sarajw Oof, that sounds really hard … Situations like that are so difficult to parse when you're young, especially because you want to fit in and belong!

Always keeps me thinking of my kid and how I can prepare her for such situations, which she will certainly find herself in. I think I'm doing a good-ish job, but who knows. The good thing is that we are our own best examples that we have found our way, so we can be confident our kids can find theirs, too :)

Ok, shit. I ordered GoGo Penguin’s v2.0 on vinyl and it arrived and it’s so damn gorgeous that I now fear for all the money I will spend on vinyl …

But it’s ok – this is a great way to support the artists and, really, what would we do without them! 🤘

"Beyond Burger" as replacement for veggie burger is destroying my ability to go out to restaurants and eat a full meal as a vegetarian. Look, many long-term vegetarians are actually revolted by the idea of eating blood-squirting carcass, synthetic or otherwise.

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@mmitchell_ai Agreed, I really dislike it if it reeks of meat. But it‘s one more option to get people off meat, so I‘m happy it exists 🤷‍♂️

Do I want an e-bike?

I don't think I neeeed an e-bike.

But I think a low powered one might be helpful for when I'd actually like to ride a bike somewhere a little further away but not get super sweaty on the way. Or, for comfortably taking the kids in the trailer to the less local playgrounds, that are just that bit too far for them to ride to on their own bikes.

My office has a shower, but planning the extra time for that into my day is just a bit much, and I feel hot and bothered for ages.

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@sarajw Sara, you know the answer! 😂 If I‘d have the choice again I would have bought it much earlier and gotten one with two wheels in the front to not always have so much of a hassle with the kickstand. But that has downsides, too, so best testdrive some.

My budgeting advice as a carless person, too: If other people pay thousands for their cars we can spend that on bikes instead and have much more fun!

peter,
@peter@gassner.io avatar

@voxpelli @sarajw Those trailers are interesting, haven‘t seen the ones with a motor – clever!
