The Most Dangerous Game is a good episode of Radio Play Revival. It’s nice to listen to Michael Urie, and Christopher Walken is so well cast as the bloodthirsty aristocrat.

Well, I was planning to get some friends together this weekend...but everyone's going away. Poo.

So I'll so some cleaning, some reading, and maybe take a day and ramble in the car with a notebook and a camera and see what I can see.

I have this half-baked idea that we only ever get one day. Your conscious is reconstituted anew each morning from the memories made by your body's previous inhabitants, and is mercifully given a sense of continuity. "Yes, that was me. I exist today, and I existed yesterday."

But when your brain winds down to sleep, the YOU that's present, the entity reading these words right now, evaporates. The memories you made are stored, and tomorrow the dance begins again.

You get ONE day. Make it matter.

After a long slog, I've finished an initial test of this idea: a few of the longest rivers (depending on how you measure) in Michigan, modeled after the comparisons that were popular in the 19th century (e.g. https://www.loc.gov/resource/g3200m.gcw0013960/?sp=6&loclr=blogmap). When time/energy allow, will do more later. Your feedback is welcome! See this thread for a few bits of context, highlights, and some detail images.

Kind of disappointed that I'm apparently missing some impressive organ music in monsterdon tonight, but I just wasn't up for it.

I love that stuff.
To make you all jealous: when I was in grad school CSU renovated a former high school into an arts center and built in a pipe organ. To inaugurate it they had an organ concert for Halloween. And it was one of the coolest concerts I've ever been to.

V8 Jeep > V6 Jeep apparently

In a 2003 version of the song I Hate This (M-Phatic Mix) the lyrics bemoan politicians selling their souls for “a V6 Jeep”. In a later version of the song, the lyrics bemoan politicians selling out for “a V8 Jeep”.

Why the change?

Imagine it was a DaimlerChrysler exec writing to the musician: “You better change that to our flagship V8. Now a Grand Cherokee, that’s a Jeep worth selling your soul for!”

So my cousin set up my grandmother with a Roku box for TV. She’s enjoying Freevee and news apps and YouTube.

How can I buy her specific shows or movies that she misses? Amazon? Some other service? It’s gotta be user-friendly.

(All of it’s worth getting her off satellite TV because she’s stopped watching Fox News.)

petes_bread_eqn_xls,
@petes_bread_eqn_xls@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

@kemotep @x00001

Normally I would agree (I buy physical media myself).

In this case there’s the hassle of sending and setting up a player, and teaching her about switching inputs when she wants to watch news instead of a show.

I’m not concerned about longevity either in this case. I’m not building a solution for 10 years, this is just something she’ll care about for a couple of years at most.

It was cool how, 25 years ago, Hollywood decided that every movie needed some big beat electronic songs in the soundtrack.

Okay, the trend was overused. Dramas, comedies, action, even romcoms!

Still. I liked it.
