Five stars: A Roost and Arrest by Hillary Avis and Kitty Hendrix (Narrator) (2020) is the third book in the Clucks and Clues mystery series. Leona's egg business is doing well and she's in the mood to celebrate. She spends Independence Day with friends but after the fireworks, her friend is under arrest for the murder of that year's beauty queen. With her friend in custody, it's up to Leona and the other women to cafe for the accused's young boys, and solve the murder, of course.

Shawneen lives with his mother on their farm in a time when a penny can buy a box of matches. It's on one such errand that he first spies the trumpet and learns how much it costs. It's more than he and his mother will ever easily make on the farm.

The last two days I've had a vague mystery plot stuck in my head. I knew it was from a long running series. I knew it took place at a remote lodge up somewhere snowy. I knew it involved a body of water with the name Devil in it.

After doggedly reading through my book reviews (this folks is why I maintain a book blog) I found it!
