fact: counting UTC offsets alone, there are 38 of them ranging from -12:00 to +14:00 (yea, not +12:00), including half-hour offsets like +5:30 and quarter-hour offsets like +5:45; and for timezones there are way more as each timezone may switches between offsets at different times of the year—people living in most western countries know well of this

Hey #WebDev #JavaScript, say I was writing a service worker that can fetch resources from multiple different sources (say, IPFS, or alternative endpoints, or…) that might not be the origin.

Even though there are many sources, there is always a chance that any given request eventually fails — after trying several of them.

What HTTP error code should the service worker return to the client if the request does fail?

It feels like a 4xx error. But which one? Or should I come up with a new one? 🤔

A cool explanation that I learned recently of why you can't divide by zero:

If you take the algebra that is probably the one you've been taught at school and remove the restriction on dividing by zero, then you can use the resulting algebra to prove that every number is equal to zero.

So either you would have to introduce new restrictions, or you would end up with a zero ring (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_ring), which is valid but not very useful.
