Picked up the lovely French trio again and delivered them to the concert hall. It was dusk so the cockies were deafening, which amused them no end. Looking forward to hearing them do Beethoven tonight, once I've wrangled all the nannas in and out of the lift.

On ABC radio this morning there was news of a rehab facility housing male perpetrators of ... yes, they remove the MEN from the home, not the WOMEN and CHILDREN. This is the sort of thing our federal govt should be funding. It makes so much more sense, for so many reasons.

Library shock (temporary) closure. Smacks of election related motives. Due to reopen a month or 2 before the ACT election. Closes next Wednesday and there's been no announcements til now. Honestly... 😡.
Excellent interview just now with @wodenvalley president Caroline Le Couteur on the ABC.

Thirty Australian women killed already this year. That's 2 per week.... twice the usual rate. WTF...

sister_ratched,

Katy Gallagher speaking this morning about the rising number of women being murdered. Still framing it mostly in terms of support services for affected women, rather than making it a men's problem. Men need to be at the forefront of prevention and culture change.

Have just had to insert my pointy gnome up our trusted cattery, with whom we've had great service for 20 yrs. Impossible to communicate with by phone or online, and we have an urgent need to book due to the aunt situation in Sydney. They've been taken over by a bloody franchise. Honestly, it's a crappy business model if you lose a long term customer simply because of a communication blockage. Anyway, filthy email sent. 😡

Has COVID set us up for a major heart disease epidemic? It’s happened before | newatlas.com

"Around 20 years ago a pair of epidemiologists presented a controversial new hypothesis to explain this weird phenomenon: the 1918 influenza pandemic triggered a wave of heart damage in millions of people and primed them for later-life heart disease."

"SARS-CoV-2 is a very different virus to influenza. In many ways it is much more problematic. It can infect a far wider assortment of human organs and tissues than influenza and it is mutating in ways very different to H1N1."

"The COVID pandemic has not waned and dissipated in the same way the 1918 pandemic did. Instead, the SARS-CoV-2 virus is frantically changing its form from month to month leading people to experience relatively frequent reinfections."

Ode to a rucksack.

As part of a big clearout, I got rid of my trusty old rucksack. It’s battered, stained and has lost a few straps, so I don’t mourn its passing - but I do celebrate its life.

I can’t remember precisely how old it is but I recall taking it on a camp aged 15. Since then it’s been to uni with me, been on countless ferries and trains, crossed Europe to Kosovo and back in 1999, been my trusty steed on my big travels of 2001, and been there in the journeys of my first two books.

@simonvarwell Yay for the old rucksack, that's quite a life!
