I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions, but I made a few this year. The pile of books on my bedside table has gotten out of hand. I hear by resolve to read all of these books by the end of the year. And at least start to work on the box of books under the bed.

@brianstorms guess what arrived today? It is in the pile! (My aging eyes are not looking forward the tiny point size though.) (Based on current reading rates I should get to it sometime before the end of the decade.)

Two more line jumpers. The first is because well, we have picky eaters. Some good suggestions in here, recommended if you to have a picky eater. The second because my middle schooler is reading it as an assignment and I thought it would be good to read along with him. I have seen the movie before, but never read the book.
While I seem to be making a lot of progress, the actual pile is not diminishing, in fact it’s gotten taller. Still plenty of time left.

Finally got one from the pile. by @orkneydullard thoroughly enjoyable read, covers everything from counting rods, to abacuses, the mechanical calculators, and on until the present, without getting too deep in the weeds on any of them. A lot of history that happens alongside computer history, but that I did not know.

@brianstorms @orkneydullard order displayed does not equal order read. (Not looking forward to tiny font, lol)

FURIOSA wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I was expecting. As a prequel it did its job well.

At the end of the day though, it’s all so pathetic, the whole series, as it is still just one gigantic excuse for internal combustion engine vehicle, as well as guns and ammo, product placement.

As if ICE cars and trucks and guns were all society truly valued. Dream on oil/gas and legacy auto industries.

@brianstorms have you seen the original Mad Max? From 1979? Or Mad Max 2 from 1981? Both movies are a treatise against our obessension with car culture.

Pro tip: Before returning your rental car, make sure you delete your phone contacts and travel history from the onboard infotainment systems. The rental agency isn’t going to do it for you.

@Nonya_Bidniss yes delete your device and you’re driving history when you turn in the car it’s kind of what I’m saying here. As you can tell by the photos, most people are not doing that.

Working on a new Setec Astronomy device after my previous build got resin leaked on it. Going to go all out with a hinge and the internals, I also want to keep as much of the tape mechanism in places as I can so it looks more stock.

I don't understand how anyone could experience the inside of a restaurant on mother's day and then ever want to experience that again.

spacerog,
@spacerog@mastodon.social avatar

@egypt went to a local brewery, went early, mostly empty, mom had fun drinking beers, eating pizza and playing board games with kids. Probably our best Mother’s Day ever.

Nice of them to leave the door open for me this time.

For those who are asking (OK nobody actually asked) this was section 131 of Subaru Park during the Philadelphia Union game earlier tonight. The door was open for the entire game. (The Union lost, terrible ref.)

Something else I’ve noticed at this year is a lack of red. A lot of orange, pink and purple and blue, but not a lot of red, much less than previous years. (do not underestimate color impact when it comes to marketing and sales.)

Another change I have noticed at #rsa is a lot of older established companies opting for the smaller booths in the N/S connector this year. And then, of course, there are the new upstarts with way too much VC getting a booth that’s way too big for them, that hasn’t changed and probably never will. #rsac #rsac2024
