Now I can't stop thinking about cyberpunk designer vaginas and cyberpunk upgrades in a Bladerunner-esque cityscape

"It was signed by J.F. Sebastian himself"
"Installshield cannot continue with bad dragon present"

Maybe God does hate gays but like in a subtle way where He's not gonna strike me with lightning or anything, just add some weather over Newark to delay my flight a bit and make my new kitty sore

@LunaRogue I hate to be the one to break it to you but god's non-binary:

  1. Is his own father, son, and "spirit"
  2. Impregnates mary via an archangel
  3. Is omnipotent and omniscient, therefore in everyone's orgasm
  4. Loves everyone and everything, which makes them polyamorous.
  5. Hearing them speak their pronouns would drive you literally insane with awe.

Ok, but hear me out, how about instead we build a world where nobody needs to skip breakfast because your ability to eat isn't defined by how many pieces of magic paper you have?

the code of conduct knows what is appropriate by knowing what is not appropriate. by subtracting what is not appropriate from what is, the code of conduct attains adherence.

stevelord,
@stevelord@bladerunner.social avatar

@gsuberland The guidance committee uses adherence to generate corrective commands to drive the code of conduct from a position where it is appropriate to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't appropriate, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.

fedi.buzz - being used to generate fediverse stats via relay.fedi.buzz. Apparently respects robots.txt for opt-out but I had to ask the author to find out. When I asked if they could mention robots.txt on their site they asked if that was an offer to help with web design. Not my job to help opt-out scanners do the right thing and make it easy to opt-out, hence the tag.

@thesimon I had a notion that ads could be a free tier for an instance and some donation mechanism could allow them to be tapered down to zero (say at $10/mo).

stevelord,
@stevelord@bladerunner.social avatar

@thesimon @swansinflight @scottgal as an instance admin we cover our own costs and don't need someone to piss on the fediverse while claiming its for our benefit. If you absolutely must implement this, have the decency to make it easy to detect remotely so we can defederate with anyone who turns this on.

I don't mean to brag but I think I'm starting to get pretty good at web scraping now. I've done a bunch of scrapers this week and each one is getting better every time.

You ever see code so bad and confusing it makes you do a double take? 😬

https://gn-tronics.dev/@k I hear it has very reasonably priced parking. I'd love to watch a history of Wales tv series with GLC though.

Today I spent most of the day on a project to check for changes in shipping timetables. But this isn't just any scraper, oh no. This is a scraper that given a URL:

  1. Downloads a page
  2. Identifies all of the images under a certain CSS selector
  3. Downloads all of these images
  4. Uses computer vision to identify differences and draw a bounding box around them.
  5. Sends me an email with screenshots of before and after showing where changes happened.

Gotta say I'm quite proud of it.

stevelord,
@stevelord@bladerunner.social avatar

One of the smaller shipping companies I'm tracking updates it's timetables solely in the form of a partial screenshot of an arbitrary number of excel spreadsheets. (no really). Prior attempts at using tesseract to ocr have failed, partly because of the injection of superscript text for 'th' and 'nd', and partly because the tables can be arbitrarily structured. Rather than attempt to parse it, I needed a visual diff so I can easily spot the changes with a Mk I Eyeball(tm).

stevelord,
@stevelord@bladerunner.social avatar

This time I used for session handling as I wanted to give it a go, and to extract the relevant image tags. I then used httpx to download the files to a "newest" directory.

stevelord,
@stevelord@bladerunner.social avatar

After fiddling with OpenCV I found that OpenCV really doesn't get on well with this company's gifs. Some tables are jpegs, some are gifs because :fine: . OpenCV would barf because it couldn't convert the colourspace. So I had to write some code that:

  1. If the file is a gif
  2. Convert it to a 24-bit png at 100% quality.
  3. Delete the original gif

Ok, now lets do some actual computer vision!

Hi there.

If you’re following my account from universeodon or whatever you should probably get used to not following me because I’m going to slap a suspend on that domain tomorrow because the "but you posted publicly so I can do what I want" brain worms have infected your administration.

Not sorry, just annoyed.

stevelord,
@stevelord@bladerunner.social avatar

@djsundog yup, suspended earlier today. Fuck that noise.

    So, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m going to go out here on a limb and say that it seems to me that the majority of good faith criticism of the vibe on mastodon, calling it “stuffy” and “no fun”, comes from people who joined mastodon.social, after complaining loudly that there was no default instance to quickly onboard people to the new service.

    So like, the irony, I guess, is what hit me this morning.
