Here's an example of changing state on the BMW handle with the CLI. The Initial-V Vim plugin basically just uses the CLI to change handle state when Vim's state changes

A Ruby program is being run that changes the state of the LEDs on a BMW handle

I wish RubyGems had some kind of "org owner" type thing. There are gems effectively owned by previous employers, but nobody on the owners list works there anymore. Fortunately current employees are able to reach former employees, but this seems like a fragile system

Worked on an optimization to delegate methods with @jhawthorn today and I'm pretty excited about the progress. Need to fix more tests before I can land this patch, but I'm very happy about where it is and hopeful it will unlock other optimizations

Good article, but the part about commit messages hurts my heart. I am guilty of writing long ass commit messages that nobody will ever read. ๐Ÿ˜† https://blog.testdouble.com/posts/2023-10-10-16-things-you-believe-about-software/

Been messing with Stackprof. I was able to generate Gecko format profiles from Stackprof traces which means we can feed them to the Firefox profiler. Here's a sample profile (just a profile of booting a simple Rails app): https://profiler.firefox.com/public/pjsb7k2btqb0er8ta86d861f4k73sgzafzw5tq0/calltree/?globalTrackOrder=0&thread=0&timelineType=category&v=9

When you hit t on GitHub, it lets you search files inside the repo. It used to be that immediately after hitting t, the search box got focus so you could immediately type. Now you have to click in to the search box before you can type. I never noticed how much I cared about that feature until it stopped working ๐Ÿ˜†

Doing security releases sucks (don't worry, I'm just thinking back to the most recent Rails release). Was thinking about writing a blog post that explains the challenges, but even thinking about it makes me tired

I think maybe my best advice is: definitely get involved in open source, just make sure either nobody uses your software or you quit ASAP ๐Ÿ˜†

I know this is silly, but I highlight text while I'm reading it and for some reason the left and right sides of commit messages on GitHub get highlighted when I select the commit text and it really distracts me (unsure if this is a Safari thing or what, and yes I am aware of how silly it is for me to be distracted by this)

(also curse websites that make popups when you click, or prevent you from highlighting text! ๐Ÿ˜ก)
