@jon Some highlights of the Aalen -- Donauwörth line (cross border rail Baden-Württemberg/Bayern):

  • ICE train using crank level crossing
  • signal boxes in EVERY station
  • derailment in Nördlingen, because a switch was set under a running train, which blocked the line for several months (this happened at least three times)
  • platform so narrow that it can no longer be used since Dec. 2022
  • replacement buses because DB Infrago has not enough personnel for all that ancient infrastructure

Für die einen eine große Entlastung für die Umwelt, für die anderen ein unnötiger Digitalzwang: Die #DeutscheBahn will die #Bahncard als Plastikkarte abschaffen und komplett auf eine digitale Umsetzung per App setzen. Diesen Konflikt wird man nicht ganz lösen können. Ein Opt-in für die, die nicht können oder wollen, hätte man zumindest in Erwägung ziehen sollen. So bleibt ein unangenehmes Geschmäckle.

@Sebastian Bedenklicher finde ich, dass die DB zurzeit Schlag auf Schlag die nicht-personalisierten Fahrkarten abschafft. Im Reisezentrum gibt es seit Oktober nur noch Fahrkarten mit Namen drauf, und der Postversand geht seit heute nicht mehr.

Falls auch die Automaten auf das neue System umgestellt werden, kann man bald nicht mehr Bahn fahren, ohne seine Identität preiszugeben.

There’s a problem preventing trains going between Ulm and Augsburg - the red route through Ulm is the normal but can’t be used

The orange line would seem to me the best alternative

But my Stuttgart - München ICE is diverted on the green route. Which seems a hellish wrong way around!

@jon On the line Aalen – Stuttgart, they seem to be very reliable, only they had to cancel the IRE 1 trains during the summer holidays due to personnel reasons I think.

@jon On the single-track (Aalen–Donauwörth, run by Go-Ahead Bayern since Dec 2022), they have massive problems with delays and cancellations, especially in the section Aalen – Bopfingen.

The main reason seems to be DB Netz refusing them to use platform 2 in Lauchheim station, although DB Regio did use that platform until last year. I told the SWR Fernsehen about this problem:

@jon I exchanged lots of e-mails with Go-Ahead about this problem. They wrote me that the platform was too narrow according to DB Netz.

Sadly even the TV report did not make DB Netz answer anything useful (and of course the problem remains unsolved).
