I don't have enough good cameras to stream all the fat pigeons in nests on my balcony.
Not sure how I'm gonna stream both of these.
This one is the one from last and previous year, its about twice the size of the rock pigeons on stream.

@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas hm do they have webcam sensors? I do have decent IP cameras here but thats no where remotely close to DSLR

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas thanks for the tip that sounds great. Found some cheap ones from a UK seller.
None of them have the PSU but I assume thats easy to hack or it might even support PoE?

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas the ones I found have Ethernet ports at least next to the SDI jack

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas ok yea while the one on the right is actual Ethernet its only for firmware upgrades unfortunately.
Do you happen to have the pinout for the RJ45 control cable? Or are there off the shelf serial adapters for that for network gear?

E: Nvm they have the pinout here
https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/telepresence/endpoint/camera/precisionhd/user_guide/precisionhd_1080p-720p_camera_user_guide.pdf

tho if you know off the shelf cable for cheap I rather use that

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas @danimo looking at the docs that all seems really simple. Could spin something low cost that is JLC assembly compatible

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas @danimo Is there an application where controlling 4 cameras specifically is important or was that number arbitrary?

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas @danimo Right now I got ESP32-S3 on USB-C for USB in and then from ESP to 3x RS232 ICs (cause it can do 3x UART and its pretty cheap). Made more sense to me than USB to UART cause then you have the choice between USB control and network control and could translate to more common standards directly if you want.

Then pluggable terminal and barrel jack for power in.
Was thinking about PoE but the higher wattage standards get quite pricey.

I could drop a WS281x behind each RJ45 if useful?

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas @danimo oh and a Qwiic connector cause thats always useful to plug in some random I2C stuff

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niklas @danimo so just some 2.54mm pin headers that give you 12V Data GND where you can solder on a JST pigtail that the strips ususally come with?

FedEx is really the most annoying shipment option here atm.
The only way to have them deliver the package to a neighbour or have it dropped off at your door is to email them and hope a person will read the email in time.
Otherwise its perpetual failed delivery hell when you're not home/asleep because they have no depots where you could go pick it up after a failed delivery x.x

I got my Wii from the basement and excuse me but wtf is this power supply lol
My GaN phone charger is about the same power output at like 1/8th the envelope.

Even for back then thats an insanely big brick.

I get the feeling that the US does not really have strong outdoor (illegal) rave culture?

You get these awesome outdoor sets by Marc Rebillet, hes going at it like the insane man he is and people are just sitting there on blankets on the lawn?!
No one is dancing???

Curtain rails work as a really cheap way to put normal ceiling lamps on a rail. I just ran some 0.75m² wiring through the slot and printed some chonkier slide hooks to hang the lamps onto.

a junction box infront of the curtain rail to distribute the power onto two smaller cables

timonsku, (edited )
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

the hook design, made it a bit flatter than the slot so cables fit through above it

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@Jomer the wires have plenty of space, you can move them to any point and the cable stays hidden

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@Jomer most of it goes into the cable cup, you can easily fit 3-4 meters of cable into one cup.

Yo, if you live in Berlin and have a sunny balcony/garden/window. You can get a plug-in solar setup for basically free.
This city subsidy program gives you up to 500€ for a setup and most only cost you around 300-400€.
Its basically free electricity for your apartment/home.

https://www.ibb-business-team.de/steckersolargeraete/

https://www.berlin.de/solarcity/solarcity-berlin/im-fokus/foerderprogramm-solarplus/

E: Actually a lot more citites and even some states offer similar programs: https://www.vattenfall.de/infowelt-energie/solar/balkonkraftwerk-foerderung

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

One example for under 500€ that fulfills the spec limits:
https://epp-solar.de/product/1000w-balkonkraftwerk-komplettset-mit-500w-solarmodule-nep-800w-wifi-wechselrichter-und-10m-schuckostecker-4/

Keep in mind that in Berlin you need aproval before you can buy if you want the subsidy.
Its the opposite in other programs so read up before you make an order.

timonsku,
@timonsku@mastodon.social avatar

@niclas yea it does, its a plug-in system. You just plug it into an outlet.
