After all the smart-ness in , I needed a that didn't require any thinking. has the emotional and mental depth of an after-school special, and 20 minute episodes! Winning.

Except the ML is a total JERK to the FL. And the 2ML is thoughtful, supportive, considerate, kind, emotionally aware... exasperated sigh

It is a Korean remake of a and ... I can tell?

30yos playing teens irritates me, though...

I think "A Love So Beautiful" is one of the worst dramas I've watched. It tied for 4th worst with several others.

"Knight Flower "

I don't save too many Kdramas on disk anymore.
Delete sometimes if I am sure I won't regret it later.
But Knight Flower is for the keep !

What a good, meticulously made drama this is !
I would like to give the whole team flowers for their work.
I could not make a choice, so I bought them all.

감사합니다 !

So much for choice.

Our insurance provider, Blue Cross, terminated its contract with a large health care provider here in Arizona. That means that we can no longer go to the hospital that is less than 2 miles from our house. We now have to travel more than 7 miles to arrive at an emergency room our insurance will accept.

Now I have to figure out which doctors we can still see.

@LaNaehForaday
Yes. When I purposely selected my neighborhood for its proximity to a hospital, and now the choice to use it is financially unfeasible, I will complain.

People who don't want universal healthcare point to how limited our choices would be. I was trying to point out that the US' current system of health insurance limits our choices more than universal healthcare would.

For the 1st time, I am seriously considering fast-forwarding through a drama during a 1st watch.

The FL's character in "Don't Dare to Dream" / "Jealousy Incarnate" is so awful (thru eps 13 / 24) that I can't stand when she's on the screen - how can a person be so clueless?

It is so bad that it was going to be the 1st drama that I drop. But I went & read reviews & so many people loved it that I think I'm going to resort to fast-forwarding.

I've seen this actress in "When the Camellia Blooms" & in "It's Okay That's Love" & although she grew on me a bit in the last one, I didn't particularly love her in either - she picks annoying characters (or makes them that way).

    Whatcha Watchin'?

I've recently finished up several so my list feels like it's getting manageable.

    *** Finished - Need to Write About (or I won't remember) ***

    Alchemy of Souls (1)
    Marvelous Women
    My Demon
    Welcome to Samdal-ri

    *** Watching w/ a Watch Party ***

    Alchemy of Souls Season 2: Light & Shadow (eps 1 / 10)

    • can't wait for this story to continue!
      Gyeongseong Creature Season 1 (eps 1 / 10)
    • 1st episode was fantastic!

    *** Personal Watching ***

    The Uncanny Counter (eps 11/16)

    • took it off hold & am trying to finish up
      Call It Love (eps 11/16)
    • unexpectedly deep
      Jealousy Incarnate/Dare to Dream (eps 9 / 16)
    • FL, Gong Hyo Jin doing her part to remove stigma from medical problems. I have the worst 2nd lead syndrome ever & it seems I may get my wish???
      Marry My Husband (eps 7 / 16)
    • Park Min Young does not disappoint. It's marvelous.

i remember when i used to avidly read conversations about and eagerly looking for more to add to my watch list.
Now I just keep reading until I find the post which tells me I won't be able to cope with it and this is another series I should probably miss.
How do you stress addicts manage it? Like seriously. How do you cope with all of the cortisol and stress reactions from your entertainment?

I bet it's kind of like people who love roller coasters & people who don't.

I love them - not because they don't bother me, but because they do. The getting all nervous as you approach the crest of the ride is just as fun & scary as the descent.

For me, it's the same with dramas. I do like a nice calm, little conflict drama as a palate cleanser, but then give me the fear & angst & despair so that I can be comforted, healed, find hope again, or learn a lesson. It's the journey through those emotions that makes it fun for me.

In reality, do I like feeling fear, angst, & despair? No. But in a form of entertainment, I love it.

You know, one of the most interesting criticisms I heard of this year was that it's becoming too "Westernised". (This was in some forums I've been in.) TBH, I didn't understand what they mean, but when I watched , I got an inkling. It felt unnecessarily violent, gory & had little heart. It was well-executed but I just didn't feel moved by the main lead's murderous motivations.
Don't know, something feels off with Kdramas lately but I can't put my finger on it.

    whoosh,
    @whoosh@techhub.social avatar

    @jodmentum @liztai

I feel that in addition to the violence, there is more dumbing down. (My guess is to appeal to the large U.S. market).

For example, the "Strong Woman/Girl" shows. In SWDBS (the original) there were multiple storylines all centering around one motif, but in "Strong Girl" we're taken down to 1 main story line with a couple of shallow side stories that do not provide any support or contrast for the main story.

Also noticed in "Welcome to Samdal-ri" there is the same simple main story line with a couple of side stories, but they don't seem to be intertwined at all. I haven't noticed much symbolism or anything deeper yet & we're more than 1/2 way through. It's not bad, but it doesn't feel right.

'"Strong Girl Namsoon" and "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" will reportedly have a follow-up K-drama!'

If I hadn't gotten to episode 12 of Strong Girl (& still watching), I would have thought another "Strong Female" show highly unlikely. Although I wasn't too keen on SG Nam Soon at first - really due to the FL being way too cutesy - the last 2 - 3 episodes have been good.

I'll be curious to see what they do with a 3rd drama in the franchise.

I feel like my watching is all over the place right now.

    Watch Party Shows (no binging)

    • Alchemy of Souls 6/20 eps: beautiful costuming, great story
    • Marvelous Women 12/35 eps: interesting story about silk weaving, cool hair ornaments

    • Another Miss Oh 17/18 eps: hard to explain the hold this has on me - I will try when I review

    • Cheese in the Trap 9/16 eps: so scared of what the ending might bring that it's taking me forever

    • Happiness 3/12 eps: (rewatch) SO GOOD

    • Lovers of the Red Sky 9/16 eps: excellent supernatural historical

    • The Uncanny Counter 8/16 eps: good, nice to return to it for something different

    • When the Camellia Blooms 16/20 eps: murder mystery romance - very good

    • Destined with You 16/16 eps: Finished today. One of the best. Sad it's over.

I both love & hate the time when I finish a kDrama and need to decide what’s next. So many to choose from, but so many choices…..

    I’m currently watching:

    *** Via watch party - so only 1 or 2 a week ***
    Goblin (eps 9 ?)
    Marvelous Women (eps 3)

    *** Currently Airing - so only 2 a week ***
    Heartbeat (eps 14)
    My Lovely Liar (eps 4)
[I unintentionally fell into these 2 current dramas - I will try never to do this again - waiting is terrible! Impatience is one of my strong personality traits.]

*** Watching on My Own ****
I like to have 3 - usually a historical, a light-hearted, & then something else - horror, action, fantasy, etc.

    Sungkunkwan Scandal (eps 1)
Fills historical & Park Min Young quest

I need at least 1 more. I thought maybe “Doom at Your Service”, but then thought probably not with “Goblin”. What about “Sweet Home” or maybe something lighthearted?

    Ideas?
