Does anybody have a good term to describe people you used to respect who turned out to be horrible? Like Steven Pinker, J.K. Rowling, Richard Dawkins. It's like a milkshake duck but more consequential and even more disappointing
@laurahelmuth Nothing that general but when I went to grad school I had the choice between studying with Pinker at MIT or going somewhere else, and I chose somewhere else (despite how wrong that decision probably seemed to the average observer), so in my mind he's the literal personification of "dodged a bullet"
@zoomar lol I don't know if this counts but I'm apparently very good at liking products that will fail - all sorts of things, foods, shampoo, etc. if I really love it, they will probably stop making it. I used to say I should hire myself out as a consultant, companies could test products on me and if I and say I love the thing want to buy it for the rest of my life, reconsider introducing it because it will be a flop😥
@zoomar I would read this one too, although I'd read the other one first thing and this one later to replace my daily lunchtime reading of Ask a Manager.
