Silicon Valley native, tech, artist, wonk, raconteur. I'll veer from topic to topic, and change stylistically on a whim. Curious about stuff and things.

UCD alum (PoliSci/IR & Tech Policy). Strong interests in the arts, actual political science, cliodynamics, systems theory, and seeking a bit of adventure at even the smallest scale.

I own more albums than you have had changes of underpants since birth.

Ok the collection between me and Munchkin is down to 4 guitars, 3 basses, 6 ukuleles, a mandolin, a melodica, a piano, a MIDI keyboard controller, a few amps, parts to build 3 more guitars and I am not looking forward to moving it all a thousand miles. Gear acquisition syndrome is a real disease that was exacerbated by the pandemic but little discussed by the medical community at large.

@kissane CJ were always such an interesting entity (I still remember when Kurt Loder did a short segment on them during peak MTV, and I was kind of piqued over their take on "Sweet Jane, but I think the last album I had/have of theirs is from the 90s (Pale Sun, Crescent Moon) but I know they've been at it since....I feel a rabbit hole approaching.

May 2024. Even when I'm on another leg of , I try to keep a drawing practice going as best as I can. In this case a bit of a session in an absolutely spectacular boutique Hotel I found in San Luis Obispo, called The Granada. I basically broke out a few old sketchbooks and if I couldn't think of anything new to draw I started painting in very skeletal from the semi distant past. by brewery in SLO.

Playing with flame is a perennial joy (and also confusing as hell, as all the tools I've tried over the years are great for exploring ideas in an open ended fashion but I've never found a really linear/'predictable' approach to using them, regardless of how much fun it is, it still feels a lot like video game "button-mashing".)

I think the 4th track now has a shape I'm happy with.

I still need the money to pay a couple of musicians I want for specific parts (wind, cello and bass)and also one track I'm collaborating with a long time friend but I don't know how he's getting on (we're both very reclusive by nature).

Anyway, I'm happy with progress so far which probably means I'll be riddled with self doubt and hatred tomorrow...

@mxtthxw I have that album and I think it's follow-up although I'm not sure how many albums they ultimately made, but they were a great bit of Northern soul. The occasional cut would show up on multiple acid jazz comps, but those guys and Corduroy I feel never quite got their due.

has an autobiography of sorts. It's actually a pretty decent read so far, and it confirms two things I've long thought about horn. One, he's a musically talented producer with a seemingly endless ability to make a hit song who understands how to make something sound good. And two, he's a narcissistic self-absorbed bell end and not always artist friendly. It's a reputation he seems happy to have earned.

Reddit's CEO is now comparing the people who've done the most to make the site popular to "landed gentry" -- demonstrating that he's both over-the-top arrogant and ignorant.

He's also threatening to change the rules of the site to make it easier to remove moderators. Yes, that'll definitely encourage more people to build communities there.

If anyone should be removed, it's him.

@dangillmor Spez went from a fairly even-handed sensible choice when he came back in 2015 to spending the last couple of years making himself out to be a milquetoast version of Andreessen/Musk/Rabois, themselves already quite tasteless and tone-deaf. These people are making themselves rich while breaking the spine of the industry itself.
