2 Kings 2:23-24: A story about what happens when you make fun of bald dudes

They tag a post so its general type can be easily determined. The badges I added are "Help" for threads seeking general advice or asking questions, "Public Aquariums", for posts related to aquariums seen in public places, whether a fish tank in a restaurant or an institution like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and "Show & Tell", for threads showing something off.

Tags are keywords; when they're added to a magazine, content from the Fediverse including those tags gets pulled into the magazine.

A badge is equivalent to a Reddit post flair: https://mods.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010513191-Post-Flair

A tag is equivalent to a Twitter (or Mastodon) hashtag: https://www.hashtags.org/how-to/history/what-is-a-hashtag/

Accountability, yes! The lack of accountability from moderators to users on Reddit was the main reason I already had one foot out the door before the whole API fiasco. I haven't seen it in use yet, but Kbin seems to have a moderation log for magazines that makes moderation activity more transparent. Only time will tell if that is enough.

BaldProphet,

If you look on the sidebar for a magazine, at the bottom of the magazine statistics there's a link to a moderation log you can view.

I think this is mostly what's happening. In my case, I've created a few magazines as replacements for subreddits that I've frequented, and I am by default the moderator (gotta have at least one, right?). I would be happy to bring on additional moderators as needs require.

Even the concept of such an agreement runs partially against the way the Fediverse is designed. Kbin is merely a piece of software that anyone can run on their own servers, so "top level rules" are the rules the instance owner sets for their own instance. The Fediverse is by design decentralized to limit this kind of thing.

BaldProphet,
BaldProphet avatar

Right, and it would have to be organized mostly outside the mechanics of the Fediverse: "We all agree to these standards, and further agree to defederate from instances that refuse to follow these standards." Something like that.

That said, much of the Fediverse is still in its infancy. Being too aggressive with this kind of moderation could slow its adoption. Using @enfa's suggestion, some people define racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia so broadly as to create a very limited list of acceptable speech. In the interests of keeping the Fediverse from becoming a left-wing echo chamber, I would only support limiting content on this basis if the types of unacceptable content are narrowly and specifically defined. There is, after all, value in tolerating speech that we disagree with and makes us uncomfortable, with certain limitations.

I'm not completely sure about this, but I suspect a bot wouldn't even need to hook into an API on Kbin, thanks to the ActivityPub protocol.

The players will find all the bugs Bethesda obviously missed and patch them.

Just keep scooping. And scooping. And scooping. Eventually, you'll get to the point where you're picking individual duckweeds out with your fingers. It's labor-intensive.

The only other thing I can think of is having high flow, which duckweed is supposed to dislike. You could potentially kill it off and let the critters in the tank eat it.

This is honestly really impressive. 6261 subreddits have gone dark out of 7265 so far. Source: https://reddark.untone.uk/

BaldProphet,

Yeah, especially those big ones like r/funny. I'm disappointed at how many subreddits have chosen to not go dark, however.

It's 12:02 and I have uninstalled the Reddit app. Kbin or bust, baby, and to heck with Spez!

Instance migration would definitely be a useful feature.

On my Android phone, I loaded Kbin in Firefox, tapped the stacked dots, and then tapped "Install". This gave me a PWA to use.

Spez is a sitting duck who will get plucked off the moment the company goes public

This, exactly. After that disastrous AMA, I wouldn't be surprised if any venture capitalist or other large investor interested in the company insisted on Spez stepping down as a condition for their investment.
