Letters from the lawyers: Musk threatens CCDH with brazen attempt to silence honest criticism. — Center for Countering Digital Hate | CCDH (counterhate.com)

“Last week we got a letter from Elon Musk’s X. Corp threatening CCDH with legal action over our work, exposing the proliferation of hate and lies on Twitter since he became the owner. Elon Musk’s actions represent a brazen attempt to silence honest criticism and independent research in the desperate hope that he can stem...

Final Fight: A Home Port Comparison (lemmy.world)

Everyone knows about Final Fight, right? This 1989 Capcom beat 'em up feels almost genre defining, even though it was not the first beat 'em up of its type. Nevertheless, it cast a long shadow over games that came after it, especially those released by Capcom....

Vigilante: A Home Port Comparison (i.imgur.com)

Vigilante was a 1988 Irem coin-op, a kind of spiritual successor to 1984’s Kung Fu Master/Spartan X. Like the 1984 title, Vigilante had a simple premise - you walk to the right and beat up fools in front of you and behind you. There’s no pseudo-third-dimension, no in and out, it’s just straight up single plane brawling,...

That would probably be at least mildly disappointing to the many millions of people who voluntarily and knowingly decide that their content is worth the cost, but I guess they should all defer to your great wisdom.

Elon Musk’s new xAI company launches to “understand the true nature of the universe” (www.theverge.com)

xAI, Elon Musk’s newly formed AI company, has revealed itself with a new website detailing its mission and team at x.ai. Musk tweeted the company’s intent is to “understand reality” without any other details or explanation....

QHC,

It’s hilarious to me that Elon insisted on having a headshot and being mentioned first in the team description. Everyone knows he isn’t doing anything of value, but he has to appear as if he’s writing the code himself because his tiny ego can’t tolerate “just” being the money guy.

Ex-Tesla engineer builds Aigen robots to eliminate weeds without pesticides (www.cnbc.com)

The Element drives itself continuously at around two miles per hour over farmland, using an advanced computer vision system to identify crops and unwanted botanical invaders. With two-axis robotic arms positioned close the ground, it can flick weeds out of the way where they’ll dry out before they can grow seeds and spread.

someguy3,

Electrical tape to black it out.

Painters tape to dim it.

eating3645,

To be honest I’m not sure we have enough info to make a good decision. Since I like him, I’ll go with yes but I have no supporting evidence.

Golden Axe: A home port comparison (lemmy.world)

In the UK, we have a peculiar turn of phrase: “to make a good fist of” something. It means to put up a good show, to make the best of what you have, to succeed despite your challenges. And if you ever need to demonstrate to a non-English speaker what this means in practice, you can show them the 8-bit micro ports of Golden...

If Lemmy.world doesn't defederate from Threads, Meta and all things Zuck within 24 hours, I will shut down my subs and leave.

I didn’t come to a new service just to see it get taken over by the corporate beasts who ruined the internet in general, and I am sure as hell am not going to use an instance that doesn’t care about its users....

Feel free to do so and run your own server. Blackmailing is childish and non productive by the way. I’m sure most instances will defederate from threads over time but they are looking to federate with mastadon instances more than lemmy/kbin.

Anyway thanks for participating and best of luck.

burrp,

Admins paid off? That’s absurd. Lemmy.world are taking a moderate wait-and-see approach. I disagree with that stance, but to insinuate they are corrupt because they aren’t as reactionary as you are is ridiculous.

They served Meta a valid warrant. Meta didn't even know it was about abortion. It's explicitly wrong to say they actively helped. They were forced to help and didn't even know what they were helping about. This could theoretically occur here as well, just not as usefully. Accounts aren't really tied to real identities, but servers in the US at the very least would need to comply just as well.

Edit: I don't like Meta. I think they're awful, but let's at least not exaggerate when it isn't necessary. There are plenty of other reasons to get mad at them. And I mean, posting that on Twitter is ridiculous in and of itself.
