Everyone said that, but it was a mistake. I had seen Mikawa, and she was definitely alive. Why wouldn’t Ume let me go? All I wanted to do was be with my girlfriend. Did this damn bitch think I would go with her when I had Mika?
“Fuck you,” I said and tried to get away. “She’s waiting. Mika is waiting.”
While I looked at her stupidly, she knelt and looked me in the face. “Can I kiss you?” My eyes instantly fastened on her lips. They were lovely and, when taken as a whole, formed a soft, kind-looking smile.
I nodded, and she put her hands on either side of my face. They were cold against my hot cheeks. Bending over, she kissed me gently on the lips. She tasted slightly of cloves. Her hair created a curtain around us, brushing my cheeks as gentle as her kiss. One of her hands moved to the back of my head. Then she broke it off and rubbed her nose against mine and said, “If that was your first, I wanted the kiss to be something nice to remember.”
