@DrALJONES This is the beginning of the end of Israel. There is no way back. Hamas directly predicted what would happen when they attacked. They knew their own people would be slaughtered and that world opinion would swing. However the leaders will not survive to enjoy their triumph. Israel will kill them . And the Gazans in time may wonder at the horrors their leaders knowingly invited. Lose lose. Like most wars.
@DrALJONES Circumstantial. It is reasonable to assume that the leaders of Hamas knew they did not have the weaponry to subdue Israel and that Israel would respond in kind. Massively. It would inflict terror in pursuit of those who planned the attack. The fall of Israel would only ever happen with changed world opinion atop huge demographic pressures. (Tragically well evidenced by the numbers of children killed). Hamas needed to shift that opinion . At any price. And so it has. Worth it?

But if the Hamas leadership is as smart as we are entitled to imagine they knew they could not win a military confrontation and did not think killing hundreds of Israelis would not result in the death of thousands of Gazans. Israel has always valued 1 Israeli as worth several of any other group.
@DrALJONES Hamas could not in any rational way think they could win a fight with the IDF. It must have known what would happen and accept it as worth the putative benefit. They certainly have gotten a sea change in world opinion. Israel has in that sense lost. And that may be the key issue.

I get your message with that phrasing but that simply is not the truth. Our money is involved because Israel has been an ally in the past, but its not our money that perpetuates this GENOCIDE. I do not agree in sending money to them for killing. Im with you on that one. But the money used in this war comes from the Saudis. And in my own opinion, that money was used to buy the Wagner group who brought their entire war force to Israel on Oct7.
The slaughter of innocent people matched perfectly to how the slaughter of Ukrainians happened under Prigozhin. Almost EXACTLY. This type of warfare has not been used by anyone with the exception of this specific group. Prigozhin is dead, but this specific group IS still FOR HIRE. It is what they do.
So although Im with you on the whole -US needs to stop sending money to Israel- this problem is hella deeper than what we are being told.
