Off a random auto dealer's website: "When your engine is hydrolocked or has gone through flood damage, it does not allow it to run correctly. This means that your car gets too much water and cannot compress the water. This repair becomes expensive when the parts attached to the piston get bent or broken, costing between $3,000 to $10,000."
@USelaine My term for all the fancy luxury vehicles (usually black with fully tinted windows) meant to imply they are driven by burly men wearing suits with Uzis... but are really driven by middle aged executives with a permanent scowl on their face and a distaste for the "little people" in their way.
Bonus if it is
1)muddy water
2) from a big muddy puddle you could have driven around.
3) ignored advice not to try restarting it, or to remove plugs to get water out before doing so.
4)car less than 3 months old.
5)150 km tow truck trip
6)belongs to your ex girlfriend, who is trying everything to get you back.
@SuperMoosie LOL, sound like you are familiar with the problem. I did something similar, drove through a big muddy puddle in a 4x4 area and killed my alternator (and learned my lesson: do not drive through muddy water, even in the 4x4).
40m long puddle with steep sides, parallel with track.
Me in feroza 4WD no problems.
Suzuki Vitara no problem.
Subaru outback lower spoiler actes as a moving dam, water level rised to the air intake which is just between the headlights, straight from the grill. Stalled. We told him not to start it. Kept cranking it. Had a 4wd bushcraft book, showed him relevant section, ignored advice. Convinced him to check air filter. Muddy water past it. Pulled spark plug and cranked, muddy water came out. Called NRMA and had to drag it 10 km to better access road.
$6000 later and a few months later.
Driver dumped girlfriend and went back to my sister, now married.
Climate change is full of tipping point.
The tipping point here, it a city designed for 1 3/4 inches per hour just got a 2 inches per hour rainfall event.
Things work, until they don't.
