25 years ago, when my FIL was terminally ill, a sermon at his tiny church gutted me.His priest described, one after another, small pleasures in the life of an Ohio farmer:

Cool breeze just before rain. Redtail hawks circling against the clear blue sky. Sitting out on the porch in the evening. A game of euchre with old friends. Snow falling silently over the fields. A sleeping grandchild.

Then he said:
These are things we must let go of as we ready ourselves to leave this world.

We sobbed.

I slept in this morning and when I came downstairs, my husband had a woeful tale to tell. Seems the squirrel came for a visit and there was NO FOOD for him. So he had to feed the squirrel, but by the time he got it all together, the squirrel was gone. I'm sure he'll come by later.

My sense of smell has gotten a lot better in the last few years (don't ask me why, but probably NOT working in an office). That said, taking a walk around the neighborhood you know how the dogs must feel.

"Ah, Amazon driver with too much cologne passed here an hour ago. PU!"

"Hmm, looks like that teenager girl with way too much perfume walked this way"

"Oh, the neighbors took a shower about 10 minutes ago"

"A baby with a dirty diaper in a stroller passed this way 30 minutes ago... Don't the parents know?!"

Very much not happy to be alive today. Not going to do anything to harm myself, no need for a police welfare check! Just very weary of continually fighting mood fluctuations and worrying about what tomorrow may bring and I've had enough. Tom says I'll feel differently tomorrow. We'll see
