RHEL isn't "going proprietary". It's as open source as it was last week; we just don't publish the RHEL source packages on a public server any more, which has never actually been required by any open source license. The sources for Fedora and CentOS Stream are still public. Nothing about the RHEL change has anything to do with Fedora, it's entirely about trying to inconvenience the white label clones of RHEL.
@radpanda I think it's fair that some folks see the news in a negative way, and some people have specific reason to be frustrated (mainly those using the rebuilds for upstream CI purposes). But some of the less accurate hot takes have been, uh, a bit too hot. :D
@radpanda I would advocate ditching everything RedHat has touched.
Even if it turns out they haven't violated the GPL, they have violated everything they have claimed to stand for since the company's inception. People invested in technologies developed at Red Hat because the company claimed to be a friend to the community.
The most ridiculous thing is how shortsighted it is. The white label RHEL clones are what startups that will eventually become large clients use.
@autolycus@radpanda Ditching "anything Red Hat has touched" is a much broader thing than you're probably imagining. You're going to ditch ext4, xfs, systemd, pipewire, podman, Docker, Kubernetes, etc?
