Today I am proud of being an elected member of the #RedHat#WorksCouncil (Betriebsrat) in #Germany. Tomorrow we have our Works Meeting (Betriebsversammlung) and we can announce good news for our associates. Also because Red Hat management truly engaged in good negotiations, listening to our concerns and working on good solutions. You can get good results in a cooperative way. It's the Red Hat way :) Shadowman approves :)
That was months of work, agreed. But at other companies these negotiations take years, according to our lawyer. He was also impressed with how open and honest these negotiations went. We might be an exception when it comes to defending the rights of our workers. But damn, am I happy it works this way for us at #RedHat.

@maxamillion The most frustrating part to me is story 6, spreading FUD, which is still a rampant problem. I just recently got home from staffing the CentOS booth at SCALE. We had multiple attendees visit our booth and say "Wait, you have a booth? The Rocky booth just told me you don't exist anymore." This was among several other false/misleading claims they were pushing about CentOS, Red Hat, and even Alma, which people were happy to inform us about. It's demoralizing.
Having unprivileged user namespaces and netfilter enabled is neither very specific nor uncommon. That's the default configuration in most distros. High severity is completely warranted for this CVE.
@argv_minus_one Sure, I'm not arguing that. I was just giving an example of why Red Hat's score might legitimately differ from NVD. This one appears to have been graded lower than it should have. Hindsight is 20/20.
While everyone has been talking about #xz's backdoor I've been working on a patch for an AlmaLinux kernel vulnerability (CVE-2024-1086) that #rhel has yet to release a fix for (though #centos stream is patched). It's quite a nasty privilege escalation vulnerability so I suggest updating ASAP.

@eigengott@jwildeboer That's debatable? In the general case sure, but for specific cases with a small enough n and enough compute this can be absolutely feasible.
So I am helping a bit with preparing a #RedHat#Girlsday at our office in #Munich. And we discussed if we should have some cool thingies to show. So I proposed to bring my 2 #OLPC. The original (and still working!) $100 laptop. Still the cutest little machine that could ...
It was so full of innovation. It could do mesh networking without an access point, even while sleeping. You could use the microphone and speakers on two OLPC, connected via the mesh, to do distance measurements with sound. We used that to measure how tall children are. One OLPC on the floor, one over their head, peep, ping, done :)
So the EMEA office was for a short period of time located in a castle(!) close to Brussels. That's where you could see Free Software people working hard on making it all work. Where baroque rooms were filled with solar panels to charge OLPCs. It was magic.
