So, this very cool!

Just in time for the 2024 election cycle, Indivisible @indivisibleteam, has shuttered their Twitter account and relocated their social media presence to Mastodon.

With the goal of building a broad coalition of voters that support Democratic candidates to eliminate the filibuster, codify Roe, pass democracy reform and unrig the courts, Indivisible aligns well with Mastodon values.

Indivisible had more than 250K followers on Twitter. Let's welcome them here!

dbennett,
@dbennett@wandering.shop avatar

@mastodonmigration so, they dropped the ability to reach 250k for 0? And there's one less voice against the GOP on X now.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@dbennett

Yes, and a good thing too. The fallacy that you can beat someone at their own game is one of the things that continues to sustain that hellsite. Walk away. Let it collapse into an echo chamber of irrelevance.

dbennett,
@dbennett@wandering.shop avatar

@mastodonmigration I don't engage with them; in fact, I've blocked over 10,000 of them. I do have a nice community of woodworking folks. We talk about our projects and help each other out. We share old tool discoveries and discovered ancient how-to's. None of them want to move anywhere else and I'm fine with that for that community.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@dbennett

Well that's fine for you and your community of woodworkers, if continuing to support Twitter is not your concern. Indivisible has a political mission and has come to the conclusion that sustaining Twitter by staying there is contrary to their principles.

@mastodonmigration @indivisibleteam If only there would be a way of linking to a source on the Internet 😕.

Please, don't only post screenshots, but link to the original artical.

@mastodonmigration @indivisibleteam yeah, cool. Why didn't the Dems codify Roe vs Wade before, though?

Welcome to the Fediverse, @indivisibleteam !

@mastodonmigration
Do you believe there are general values regarding that Mastodon users share?

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@mpjgregoire

Certainly not all Mastodon users, but generally yes, Mastodon lean progressive left. Think that is pretty clear.

mpjgregoire,
@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca avatar

@mastodonmigration That is generally true at the moment, but there's nothing inherent about Mastodon that inclines it towards the progressive left for . As Mastodon becomes more popular we should expect the political opinions expressed here to mirror more proportionately the politics of society at large.

chiclet,

@mpjgregoire @mastodonmigration

I'm not so sure. I think the political right is comfortable with the social media platforms they have.

dalias,
@dalias@hachyderm.io avatar

@mpjgregoire @mastodonmigration Um, pretty much the entire platform of the US right is stuff that will get you banned from any instance that's not universally defederated & relegated to the naziverse.

mpjgregoire,
@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca avatar

@dalias @mastodonmigration
("Naziverse" is a good term. I know such sites exist , but I don't come across them because they're blocked by my instance, and I don't want to see them anyway.)

Around 74M Americans voted for the Rs in 2020. Some of those people have repugnant views, but most are just normal people who have different ideas than the Ds about what would be best for their country. Should we welcome the migration of such people to Mastodon, or hope that they stay away?

florida_ted,

@mastodonmigration @mpjgregoire
Could it be that a more educated group of users inclines Mastodon (and the Fediverse) towards the progressive? I suspect this might be a factor.

mpjgregoire,
@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca avatar

@florida_ted
The history of how the Fediverse grew has meant that the userbase is principally on the Left — but it was not inevitable; if George Soros has bought Twitter in November 2022 likely Mastodon would now be dominated by R supporters.

In the longer term, to the degree Mastodon displaces Twitter, one would expect the overall range of opinions to be similar to what Twitter had a few years ago.

@mastodonmigration

volkris,

@mastodonmigration yes, and I think it’s pretty unfortunate because I’d really like more voices from other perspectives around here to challenge, to see how they’d respond to particular points.

If anything, sort of a “know your enemy” exercise, to put it a bit strongly.
