going off about the "ongoing impeachment issue" without mentioning WORD ONE about the Russian agent who fed the Republicans the disinformation they based their impeachment on
Going to IVF and Alabama, attacking overturning Roe v. Wade. Johnson's religious beliefs are on the side of the people banning IVF because not all fertilised cells get implanted. He's stock still during all this.
Now moving to Roe v. Wade and Trump bragging about overturning the case.
Calls out Republicans voting against the infrastructure act taking credit now. "If any of you don't want that money in your districts, just let me know"
"Americans pay more for prescription medications than anyone else in the world. It's wrong, and I'm ending it."
Calls out GOP for unanimous opposition to the pricing reform that got passed, as limited as it was. (Still very much real in its range; medicare being able to negotiate drug prices is a lot.)
He gets a lot more intimate in tone when talking about education, particularly young-children education. I know that's style not content but it's interesting.
Talking about relieving student loan debt for four million people after being told he couldn't do it for everybody (by the Republican Supreme Court)
"We've already cut the Federal deficit by over a trillion dollars." Plans to make more. Talking about corporate tax hikes. "If you want to make a million, millions and millions, that's great. Just pay your fair share in taxes!"
Mike Johnson mad. Some boos from Republicans. Biden goes straight at the Republicans booing. "You don't want another two trillion dollar tax cut for the wealthy? That's what you're running on." (or something like that.)
Republicans booing border security changes in the bill that they signed off upon and then spun around and shot down. Biden taunts them. "Oh, you don't like border security now?" (approximate, not direct quote)
[some more boos]
"Oh yeah? Look at the facts!"
Calling out Trump for ordering the bill they supported stopped....
MTG shouts out the name of the woman in Georgia killed that they're making into a martyr, demanding he says her name and he was ready for it - doesn't just do that but has a picture of her ready.
"I will not demonise immigrants saying they are poisoning the blood of our country. I will not separate families. I will not ban people because of their faith - unlike my predecessor."
"Voter suppression. Election subversion. Unlimited dark money." ... "It's time to do more than talk. Pass the Freedom to Vote act! Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act! And stop denying that other core value of America - our diversity across American life. Banning books is wrong, instead of eraseing history make history - I want to [something] rights - pass the voting rights act! Pass the PRO act for worker's rights! Raise the Federal minimum wage because every worker has the right to earn a decent living!"
Going directly at NRA, calling for ban on assault weapons, on high capacity magazines, calling for universal background checks, "none of this violates the second amendment or vilifies lawful gun owners."
Gets to Israel. Talks about what Hamas did, "Here in this chambers tonight are people whose family members were taken by Hamas. I promise you we will not rest until every one of those family members is brought home."
"Israel also has a fundamental responsibility though to protect innocent civilians in Gaza. This war has taken a bigger toll on Palestinians than all previous wars combined!
More than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, thousands of innocent children...
Tonight I'm directing the US military to create a temporary pier to enable a massive increase in humanitarian assistance getting into Gaza every day."
"I know you don't want to hear any more Lindsey, but I gotta say this."
Using his age to talk about seeing over and over again the battle between "those who want to take America back to the past" and those who want to "move America into the future" I think?
"I've been told I'm 'too old.' ... I've always known what endures. The very idea of America is that we are all created equal. We've never lived up to that idea. But we've never walked away from it either, and I will not walk away from it now."
This section's all summary but he's highlighting the future (vs. TFG's obsession with the past, a very good contrast) and "solving the climate crisis" and income equality and making the wealthy actually pay taxes and so on.
Talking head: "Democrats are going to be enthused by this speech. I think this was one of the strongest speeches... there was energy, there was vigour..."
