@stephaniewalter@tink Selfishly, my initial reaction was "oh darn, now I'll get even fewer calls!". But I'm sure that many people hesitate to ask for help from a human, so this could really lower barriers. It's a little scary though. I wish these AI assistants were built with a little more "humility" and were clear about their level of uncertainty.
@earthtoneone@stephaniewalter I'm not sure it'll mean a reduction though. It's certainly good for idle curiosity about one's environment, but the accuracy challenge and the clunky nature of the interaction make me think a conversation with a human volunteer that happens in real-time is likely to win the day for the foreseeable.
@earthtoneone@tink I'm also wondering about biases, as usually and if, like most AI tools, it's trained on european/US pictures. Aka, it might struggle to recognize anything that isn't part of those cultures. But, yeah, this is the same issue with any AI trained tools.
Yeah, I guess I'm thinking of a user like my mother, who wouldn't use BME unless it was urgent, because she would be anxious about "bothering" a human. It would never function as well as a human, but it might increase access quite a bit. (IF they refined it to where it's more good than harm)
