I'm going to throw this out there and it may sound a bit controversial, but keep in mind I have nearly 20 years's experience as an entrepreneur. Is there ANYONE who works with #neurodivergent business owners or #ActuallyAutistic business owners who don't just regurgitate the same allistic/neurotypical "marketing advice" that's sold all over the groups and "free offers"? @KitMuse@actuallyautistic If I need something specifically geared towards me as an author, I may look to my mutuals within the newly created Neurodivergent Publishing Conference (NPC) for recommendations/referrals. The best and most actionable advice I have received has come from my #autistic and #ADHD friends/entrepreneurs, who discuss business with me ad nauseam.

@KitMuse@actuallyautistic@actuallyautistics I work for a company that mostly exists via word of mouth and delivering a decent solution to a selection of problems. They work with customers to create solutions and then sell them, vs making shiny products and convincing people to buy them. I think the most honest way to market yourself is like an artisan putting their sign up on the boardwalk, not buying into the "influencer" hype etc just doing decent work and letting people see it.

I find a lot of it doesn't make sense to me because of all the implicit assumptions baked into "just do this thing with this tool on this network/platform". That makes it harder to figure out how to apply it to the tools that work for me and the people I want to talk to

I sort of vibe with that. And just this morning I had the revelation that part of is, because of my autistic sense of truth. Marketing is just not in alignment with it. The wole thing of makign myself look a certain way and advertising myself is just colliding with me head on. It makes me cringe. I have always wondered why I can#t get myself to do it. To advertise anything. I'm an anticapitalist by nature. Born that way. I deeply resent this whole areny. I want to live in a world were non eof this would be necessary.
I know, dream on... I will have to process this and I will still ahve to find a way, that is more aligned with my values..
I just find the way people bend themselves in order to be marketable so revolting. I am also speaking about the area of self help, emotional healing and stuff, cus that's where I would be placing myself ( If I did). And it's especially revolting when it get's this personal.
@sahat@actuallyautistic@actuallyautistics YES! This is a large percentage of it. I mean, people say unmask and be yourself, but when yourself is not who most people want to see/know, then it just feels wrong.

I'm not sure it's unpossible, but marketing has a lot to do with controlling how you are being perceived. I can't picture myself controlling the perception of my authentic self. I'd have to figure out some really unique approach.
