ccgargantua,

People who believe in all of the hype have the same problem as people who live in denial of the technology being as powerful as it is: Thinking the purpose of is to create unique works

Consider a programmer who has lost their hands. An AI tool could be made using a to generate keystrokes based on what the programmer says

User: “Clear the terminal”
GPT: generates clear command

That is the power of that everyone who knows what they’re talking about is excited for

@ccgargantua You don't need AI for this. Dragon has been doing this for decades.

ccgargantua,

@jeffmcneill “You don’t need a car for this, my feet have done this for decades.”

ccgargantua,

@jeffmcneill Looking up dragon, is it seriously a paid service? Yucky!

ineocla,

@ccgargantua i hate to see people being afraid of ai simply because they saw some movies with a post apocalyptic scenario with ai.
That's when you realize how powerfull Hollywood actually is. Like they managed to get people hyped up with hoverboard while they are objectively useless and make them fear about ai that can revolutionize humanity

ccgargantua,

@ineocla a lot of concerns are valid tho. I definitely think AI could do a lot of bad if we don’t get on top of regulating it.

RedCore,

@ccgargantua

Keep it away from children who has no ability to say yes or no to it, also allow people who are using something to say no to the use of AI and its information gathering.

The speed in which it is beeing implemented with is very scary cause no one can keep up with the changes and therefor we have no idea were we are headed, I also strongle believe AI has no place in poilitics or social media or programs used in schools or streaming service, it should be used in labs at the most

ccgargantua,

@RedCore This is unrelated to my post outside of both of them talking about AI.

RedCore,

@ccgargantua

I understand that but I stil think people should include the topics I mention in any AI debate, cause you are talking about the power of it, and I am warning that the changes atm is so fast we dunno where we are headed and this is a problem, eather or not you like the AI

ccgargantua,

@RedCore Yes these are very valid concerns, which is why people need to be educated and interested in AI. The more scared of it we are, the less the average person will use it. The less access the average person has to it, the more a powerful person could use it to leverage the average person however they want.

RedCore,

@ccgargantua

AI has no restrainth, it is beeing used in military , Social platforms, politics, education and no one knows what the motive is for the people pushing it around, and worse the children dont understand it and could be harmed by it is they used AI without even understand what it's effects is.

RedCore,

@ccgargantua

again this brings us back to my point, it goes so fast we dont have any idea were we are headed, this includes people like you who are facinated with it,

We need to slow it down or at least allow people options so they can say no or yes them selves, without our information beeing used to feed that AI.

There has to be some regulation like evberything else has. Like in EU we band chemicals we suspect is harmful and therefor has to be TESTET before it is alowed into our food.

ccgargantua,

@RedCore I haven’t disagreed with you once. But I can tell you don’t know very much about AI. I recommend doing some research of your own, such as seeing the limitations of generative AI and current large models.

Trust me, I already know the issues and potential dangers of AI. I work on an AI model as my job :) I am educated on what you’re talking about, are you educated on what I’m talking about?

The biggest weapon anyone has against you is fear. Learn for yourself.

RedCore,

@ccgargantua

Why dont you make a serious post about the dangers and negative effect AI could have? educate me and others of how harmful it can be? Plz make a blog somewhere and write about all the dangers, then we can see how "well" you understand it cause even if I dont have any information about it then I can think of many concerns.

ccgargantua,

@RedCore done

RedCore,

@ccgargantua

Let me give you a scary experience I had, I was looking for a cheap alternative to Photoshop cause I have no money, so I found a swedish program PIXLR.com, I Noticed that every time I wanted to save what I havd done it knew weather I wanted to save it as a finished picture or as an "open" picture to nbe used to edit more. Everysingle time It knew what format I wanted to save it AS. I thought that was very weird to me, then I learned they use AI and that scared me alot...

ccgargantua,

@RedCore Gonna be honest, I’m not sure why this is what scares you and not the Chinese Government using AI to monitor their citizens like I mentioned.

ccgargantua,

@RedCore It doesn’t “know” anything. It is making a guess based off of your prior experience. There are non-AI algorithms that do the same thing, such as the spell check on your phone

stikonas,
@stikonas@fosstodon.org avatar

@ccgargantua So instead of saying one word "clear" you need to say 3 words "clear the terminal".

ccgargantua,

@stikonas Hoenstly it depends on how you set it up. Depending on how integrated it is with the system, you might have to tell it you’re talking about the terminal. If it’s specifically integrated with the terminal, you could work with the API to start the conversation context with “Interpret everything I say as if I am controlling a terminal emulator”. The user would never have to say this, as the programmer who is working with the API to make these tools can specfiy this beforehand.

ccgargantua,

This is one example of many. We could very well see a real Jarvis-like assistant very soon.
