Rasta,

There's cat hair inside my computer keyboard again? Wanna tell me how that happened?

He feels moderately guilty.

I'll get the shop vac.

@Rasta
This stuff is amazing! Clean your keyboard, car dash, etc...

Rasta,

@funguy2playwith Hey, that does look good. I used to take Keyboards apart, and do full clean, because they were worth $100 back then. Now I prefer my DELL fit, and I have three or four identical ones if one doesn't work and needs extreme cleaning. If you get them right away, the shop vac sucks everything out of the keys. At gaming parties, we'd empty out the dope dealers keyboard to roll Joints LOL

@Rasta
$100 is pretty cheap these days for a good (mechanical) keyboard. I have the G915 with GL Clicky keys (about $160 USD) and G604 mouse on all my systems. Love them.

Rasta,

@funguy2playwith This was back in the pre-gaming days. An office keyboard, heavy as a brick, with multi-language keys.
I don't game anymore, but when I did, I too, would have purchased a higher end, but I just type. Fit is more important than extra buttons or features

@Rasta Maybe vacuuming the cat would end the hair problem. LOL

Rasta,

@Snowshadow That's how I get the cat off my chair. I'm just about ready to go for a fresh coffee, I started a new pot for my wife about 30 min ago. When I leave the office, a cat will take my cushioned seat. I have $50 Memory foam cushions, because I have no ass. If I lift the cat, cushion goes too. If I forget to push the chair under the desk, I have to get them off WITH the shop vac. Now they have visual clues. The hose (before it starts) or I show them the Nail Clippers.. POOF chair back

@Rasta 😂 Yep. The threat of a vacuum usually sends cats running in the opposite direction. It must be the loud noise. But we had one Persian cat that loved having his fur vacuumed. weird.

Rasta,

@Snowshadow PITCh ,more than volume. I have to turn my music down , fearing the cats will go deaf, they sleep against my speaker

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta "sleep against the speaker" Really? They must enjoy your choice of music.

Rasta,

Everyone loves my music. @Snowshadow
Not always when I play it, but they need to sleep on it first.

@Rasta So you were my annoying neighbour, eh? 😂

Rasta,

@Snowshadow Actually, I'm (believe it or not) the GOOD neighbour. Yes, you can (should) hear my music. I'm an entertainer, it's not crap music, it's diverse, continuous, and I try to be careful not to include offensive lyrics in songs that the public hear.
Usually 9am or later I am outside in the summer, that's when they hear it. Off by 9pm, even if the law says good til 11pm. But I have a drunk neighbour that parties with a band in his garage to 2am, and I wake him at 5am with my music LOL

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta Sorry I have to disagree. There are many people like myself who absolutely despise and can not tolerate loud noise, including music. It does not matter what time of day. It is extremely stressful.

Rasta,

@Snowshadow It's not LOUD to them. IE: We have chainsaws and mowers in the country, I kid you not, they ran chainsaws in the woods 8 miles away that went 24/7. you could hear them, but not enough to wake you. Same with the guy mowing his lawn before the sunrise. Lawn tractor has a headlight, I've done that when short of time, but it's so early, the sound crossed the harbour and ruins my morning serene videos of sunrise.
if you are in my yard, it's loud, intentionally to reach the whole yard.

Rasta,

@Snowshadow From your window, it would be like you leaving your windows open and I can hear you watching As The Stomach Turns afternoon soaps. I know you deny it, but the neighbours hear your TV.
That kinda loud. Not concert loud, due to distance. You can hear it a mile away ,but not anymore than a car driving by with a window open and a radio on. Drown out by highway traffic between us. I 've an acre over km from most houses

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta Nope. No one hears my "entertainment noises". I wear headphones even while watching streaming services.

Rasta,

@Snowshadow I've noticed I do better playing Heardle with headphones. The sound is even and crisper. My loud surround speakers in the office are placed wherever they fit, not acoustically spaced.

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta
Yes. I lived in rural areas ( and do again now)...also I was a west coast resident for decades and understand how sound carries and the loudness of a chainsaw from a distance. However, even that is annoying to many.

Rasta,

@Snowshadow I hate those Chain Saw or engine noises. I can sleep through them though, Diesels have such a nice purr.
Loud sudden noises alarm me and I get anxious. A gunshot (common in rural) fireworks, doorbell LOL

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta I agree. Gunshots, doorbell etc..I am wide awake.

Rasta,

@Snowshadow And fluid moving. The sound of water in a pipe, air, high pitch whine or wear sounds, rubbing, cat picking plastic out of garbage cans.. those things

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta "shop vac"? I have a small, handheld, rechargable battery operated vacuum/blower for vacuuming little things like messy keyboards, and blowing the dust from internal fans. It looks rather like a small hair blower. Has four attachments also.

Rasta,

@Snowshadow We had one of those, DUST BUSTER , I think cat hair killed it LOL , I used to have (still do at the summer home) a HUGE shop vac. I use it for everything. It can suck the leaves from the driveway better than the leaf blower. But bulky. And I learned early, if they fill with water (intended) they can't be lifted if over 20 liter. They are too heavy. So, I bought a hand-held with dual purpose. Smaller places, easier to move where needed, and it can stay in the RV with less space used

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@Rasta this one has a reusable HEPPA filter so hair and dust won't get into the motor and kill it. It was not expensive.
Shop vacs are indeed very handy around the house.

Rasta,

@Snowshadow My shop vacs have a BALL, to prevent water from carrying over to the motor. When using for dust, it's got a reusable and semi-reusable paper filter. I take filters out to pump down the swimming pool. Use Shop Vac to suction it, until full, then syphon action takes over. Shop vac is a very used item here. You can empty a toilet for winterizing with one. and drain back water lines

chad,

@Rasta ooo the cats are NOT allowed in my office let alone on my desk. And they know.

Rasta,

@chad HA! Do you keep them in a cage? You brute! LOL Morning Chad.
My cats lay on both sides of my desk fighting for the keyboard sweet spot, then they throw up on my carpet or worse. I keep a shop vac and shampooer inside the office. I moved the sofa out when I stopped the DJ business, and they never touched it here, it was brand new. Shredded it in a month in the Living Room. Cats run us.. not the other way around

chad,

@Rasta oh good morning!
There's a pocket door between my office and the rest of the basement. There's nothing in my office that would interest them, and when I'm in here and one of them tries to enter, usually Milo, telling him "no" is enough to stop him in my tracks. If not, when I adjust in my office chair he gets the hint.
If I'm not in here the door is closed!

Rasta,

@chad I swear, if I close a door, they ruin it , scratch the wood, peel the frame, catch capet inside and pull it out. They are buggers if denied. Also, this time of the year, I grow trees. From seed. It's too early for the unheated greenhouse outside. I have a crowded table with lights on it. It's wrapped in Shower Curtain. The cat got in, knocked rare tropical trees over, small pear trees, my first apple tree of 2024, and a rogue Tomato that grew. That's bad. They are my hobby things.

chad,

@Rasta I put screen netting around our indoor garden and that kept them out. But in terms of doors, they'll try to open them but can't seem to figure out the pocket door, which is great.
They seem to know they'd be in for a world of hurt (eg, squirt bottle) if they get into something they shouldn't.
It doesn't keep Lola off of the kitchen counters though, because by the time she hears me coming up the stairs she jumps off. 🙄

Rasta,

@chad My office door is spring loaded now. Besides cats either not able to get in, or leaving it open, my whole house is even temp with a Heat pump, but under my desk is a space heater. When the door opens, a rush of cooler air comes in and chills me, because I am sitting and not active. Finally the solution was replacing the hinge with a spring loaded one that returns it to the closed (but not strong enough to latch) position
